XK8 Premium soundsystem, no sound, amplifier and headunit working? HELP!
Problem is in 1998 Convertible and amplifier I tried was from 2000 XKR Coupe. And 2000 XKR has Harman Kardon too. But Convertible and Coupe amplifiers have different part numbers and clear texts "Coupe Amplifier" and "Convertible Amplifier".
I have already changed the radio (head unit) from 2000 XKR. So connectors behind are well fitted. And there is no switch behind head unit.
So I'm still seeking any tips how to get "S.W Level" back and also the tips for distorted bass sound are greatly welcome.

I have a problem with Convertible. Trying to find out cause for rear sub distorted sound I plugged in amplifier from Coupe. Now hear unit is not showing "Mode" - S.W. Level (or something like that). also Am + Eject + 9 is not giving option to switch Fade On/Off. Also battery + to - reset has been done (once). all the suggestions are greatly appreciated! (Fade is available from head unit Mode, but bass level +3 gives distoritioned bass) All the same issues wih Coupe Amp.

What happens when you press the AM+eject+9? Is that a way too get to a menu? I have the stereo out now and the trim all replaced to slide it back in but I don't want to do this just to try the AM+eject+9 handshake.
I also don't want to turn the switches in the side of the head unit without knowing which one and what they do. Someone please help. My headunit is definitely in the wrong mode.
BurgXK8: Sorry to bother you, but you don't by chance still have that Alpine power amp lying around do you? Mine just fried on my 2002 XK8 coupe and it sure is quiet in that car now! Thank you!
I'll be out of town for a couple of weeks though.
That is incredibly generous of you, BurgXK8! I'd love to take you up on that (assuming that yours is the same part # LNF4170AA). Just let me know and I'll PayPal you the $ for shipping immediately. Really looking forward to having music in my XK again! Cheers!
Was this wire connection in the trunk or behind the head unit?
My local Jaguar agent had put a computer on the car and told me it was the amplifier which had failed. That proved to be wrong when I replaced the amplifier. Removing the radio (using some slightly misleading instructions from this site - if anyone wants detailed instructions I can give them) I found that the remote signal wire from the radio to the amplifier had become disconnected. Presumably, it had been removed in the past and not put back in properly. One bump too many and it fell out. I wish I had started there and saved a lot of money.

The amp may be different depending on the age of of your car, but, if you have one, it is in the same place on the RHS behind the carpet trim.
I'm having the same problem with my Premium Sound System with my 98 XK8. I've read through the threads and appreciate all the information provided. I started with checking the fuse that should be located in the trunk, however, the space where the fuse should be is empty and doesn't have any electrical connector's for the fuse to plug into. In other words its no a functioning fuse. It's as though I don't have the premium sound system. Does this sound normal to anybody? Also, If I could get information on where the remote signal wire from the radio to the amplifier is located I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
