Xk8 pump doesn’t run
Friends, not to beat a dead horse, the 2000 XK8 convertible I’m helping a friend with, I was told by the friend, the top hasn’t worked for 15 years! (Wished she had told me that earlier) It stopped after the dealer “repaired the locking hoses” for $2,000, and wanting another $2-3,000 to replace the rams. Note- the car went out of warranty while the dealer was working on it (how convenient). Anyway, I’ve checked all the fuses (14 in the boot), all good. But no activation of the pump. I’ve filled the pump reservoir to the top line (it was bone dry). When trying to open the top, only the right quarter window goes down. I’ve purchased 4 new quarter window relays.
Is there another check to check power to the pump? Could the dealer have intentionally pulled a relay or a connection somewhere down the line to prevent the pump from running? Only warning on the dash is “Convertible top not latched”. I manually unlatch the top when trying to open the roof.

Check the connection at the pump (electric), they tend to break with very little effort after all these years.
Thee rams might be the reason for no fluid, they do leak and repair is less then $300 for both, unless inflation has done it's thing. If your hoses are good, not a bad job, just lots of things to take apart and will give you a chance to have a look at the window condition. Sometimes the wire that controls the window breaks and wraps around the wheel, Watch for the hoses to lose their outer cover and flacks are all over the place.
