XK8 Radiator fans will not turn off-EVER - RESOLVED
I have a 2000 XK8. The radiator cooling fans will NOT turn off...EVER. I have to disconnect the battery. When the car is cold in the morning and I attach the battery cable the fans kick on to high speed. The fans were acting a little odd by turning on to high speed after first start without the AC on but now they won't stop. I did detach the sender at the thermostat tower but the fans kept running. I don't have my repair CD with me. Could someone please tell me what the problem is and how I can fix it? I've read on this forum that it might be the FAN MOTOR RELAY for other fan related problems, could this be another sympton? If you think it is, can you please tell me where exactly it is located and where I could get one?
Thanks in advance,
BillC
P.S. This is a new problem that just started a few days ago.

You should add whether this has been the same since you got the vehicle or has recently happened to distinguish between a fault and a possible PO 'modification'.

Motorcarman, Thank you for the response. I will locate and unplug the relay to see if the fans stop. Otherwise I'm looking at a ECM?
GGG, Thanks for the welcome. I filled out the intro. Thanks for the reminder. Also, Ive edited my post to include that this is a new problem that just developed.

If the ECM is seeing an 'open' from the temperature sensor rather than a few hundred ohms as indicated by your comment that you had disconnected the sensor connector and the fans are still running then pull the fan relays. On relay provides 12v to both fans (high) the other runs the fans in series dropping 6v on each (low).
If the relay(s) are operated under control of the ECM only then would I chase a computer issue.

I thought the fan control module and the two relays are three separate things. I understand the fan control module is located behind the left headlamp accessed from under the car. I was asking for the physical location of the two relays. Or am I misunderstanding.
Thanks,

UPDATE: Problem fixed! Found a welded shut 12v relay. Tapped it on the bench and plugged it back in. Fans worked fine. Ordered a new relay and replaced it. Fans now come on at the proper time. No more embarrassing battery unplugs.
Thanks so much for steering me to the right place. I love Jagforums.
