Default XK8 Rear shock bushing

This spring, I had a knock on the right rear, after the car sitting for the winter. The right rear lower shock bushing was soft. Found a pair on the internet for $ 19.00 each. The challenge was to replace just the bushing, without removing the shock. I took off the lower mounting bolt for the shock, jacked up the rear hub carrier all the way. The bottom of the shock now protruded below the lower pan.

Using a ball joint removal tool, assorted sockets I was able to push out the old bushing and draw in the new one. It was not necessary to remove the shock.

I n past years I have been able to "buzz" bushings out by using an air chisel. Not all chisels would work but I had one that seemed more powerfull so if you have one you may want to try that. Did not work this time so reverted to ball joint kit. Make sure you have the bushing lined up square and go slow until its part way in, it will **** on you if not all lined up correctly.

I don't know if anyone else has done such a thing, but it's new to me. Seems like it saves a bunch of disassembly. Good for you!
