XK8 Rear window operation when roof in manual mode
I've just removed the hydraulic cylinders from my roof as they are leaking and as my roof is fully closed in manual mode and battery disconnected I was wondering if it's possible to wind the rear quarter windows up so I can drive the car.
Are the rear quarter panels still open for access? I attach a PDF guide (from jag-lovers.com) for the rear quarter window regular replacement which may help you figure out the best way to get access. Figure 12 is of especial interest to you.
I would first try this. There's microswitches on the right hand cylinder ram that tell the car where the position of the cylinder rams are. Only when the top is closed do the rear quarter windows close.
Connector at bottom right cylinder ram.
Try to short the connectors (which I'm presuming you left in the car when you took the rams out) and then push the open/close top button by the J Gate module. Obviously you'll need to re- connect the battery.
Alternatively you can try "jumping" (a la putting 12 V directly on) the window regulator connection pins, for which access will be your major issue. Not too bad but definitely easier with the top open.
In the boot fuse box is a set of relays for the convertible top. You can jumper the window up relays for each side and close the windows. Look on the diagram on the relay to see the window terminals. I have attached a diagram show relay location.
