Default XK8 recaro seats

Hi all.

I have longed for a pair of Recaro seats in my 2003 XKR convertible ever since I bought the car.
The problem is that I have Dove Grey trim and the Recaro option was, as far as I can tell, never offered in that colour.

I have purchased a used pair in Caramel with the intention to re trim them but on starting to take them apart it is obvious that they are VERY well worn to the extent that a new seat foam for the drivers seat is almost a necessity. The “wings” on the seat frame are also completely missing on one side and the foam has been “cut and shut” to try and rectify the problem frame which obviously has not worked. I have not yet dismantled the passenger seat. I should not have bought them without physically seeing them…….

I am therefore asking if anyone knows the whereabouts of any replacement seat foam pads , either new or good used, as they are no longer available ? Alternatively I may be prepared to purchase another pair of seats and get those re trimmed, it may be easier!

Kind regards
Chris.

Try calling Autoreserve and asking if they have any - https://www.autoreservejaguar.com/

Alternatively, find a trimmer to fix and recolour the seats all in one.

Hi.

Many thanks for the reply.

I have actually spoke to Autoreserve and nothing is currently available.

I am actually an upholsterer by trade and can retrim them myself, I’m not keen on recolouring them plus the fact that the leather is badly worn.

Hopefully something will turn up.

Regards
Chris

Try Just XK8 in Coventry, not too far from you. If you're an upholsterer why not glue on new foam panels and reshape them.
I restore Recaro interiors myself and they are getting harder to find. One Jag breaker told me he has clients in Poland and Germany willing to pay £2k for the oatmeal interior.
Recaro's are not for everyone. If you're over 200 lbs then you won't fit comfortably in them. they squeak, take up too much room in the back, and the headrest is about as much use as half a scissor.

Don't half look cool though.

Thank you for your replies.

That is a very impressive collection of XK8 interior panels!

I have tried the usual breakers but as you pointed out they are very rare.

Yes, I can repair and re shape the foam as necessary, I was just hoping that as the seats are for myself I might be able to find a new or better replacement foam.

I may be doing the wrong thing putting the Recaros in but I do agree that they look very nice! I think it was the fact that I’ve seen a pair in an XK8. Unless I am wrong they were never offered as an option in Dove Grey so whatever I go for a re trim will be needed.

Regards
Chris.
