Default XK8 replacement of the Nav System with multimedia

The standard and obsolete navigation system has been replaced with a modern multimedia touch screen player without altering the aesthetic appearance of the dashboard. The system also includes the perfectly working phone in hands-free mode.
Integrated apps like google map, internet, you tube, video movie player, whatsapp, facebook, notes, calculator .... etc etc.
the native stereo system with tape radio and standard cd works in conjunction with the multimedia system mounted.
All perfect.

I think a big issue here is what that system should be. I have a 3D printer and have been debating making a bezel swap kit. However, I have not found the perfect device to plug in. A phone is cool, but then camera becomes an issue. A Garmin is also cool, but no music streaming, and camera can still be an issue. LCD Panel gets camera but nothing else. A 2DIN Conversion is too complex for DIY (IMO) and changes too much (again, IMO).

So, what do we do? Nothing so far...

Best, and to the OP, enjoy your system!

I disassembled and extracted native Navigator panel, opened it and extracted the only display by leaving the Connector Connected to have Night Illumination. in the empty compartment I have inserted with precision a simple samsung galaxy note 3 which is the ideal size and capacity. I then plugged in a power cord to load it with the ignition key in position 1.
closed the package and mounted the panel.
for the simultaneous use of the standard cd player and note 3 I have mounted the following accessory: JAG-CDR Auxiliary Jack, Changer Retention Kit for Select Jaguar XJ and XK: JAG-CDR Auxiliary Jack, Changer retention Kit for Select Jaguar XJ and XK :: iPod Adapters & Interfaces .html.
this is all, best regards to all.

In dash nav systems are largely obsolete IMO since your cell phone can usually perform this task as well or better and is constantly updated in real time. Could buy a decent cell phone and year's worth of unlimited data for cost of DVD upgrade. One exception, when i was driving in the mountains, i hit some cell dead zones where the satellite based GPS on dash continued to register a position while the smart phone was scratching its antennae. In-dash smart phone would be cool, but you would have to add it to your phone plan--new meaning to term "Sprint Phone."

Embrace the JAG's obsolescence and heritage. Maybe some techies could program a replacement DVD that makes the screen look like the glove box screen in Goldfinger with a beeping dot moving across the map.

Hi Giogio, I like to do the same with installing a Garmin Drivesmart 55. I like to connect the speaker output to the existing radio.
Do you have a schematic of the existing radio input?

Regards,
Walter

I've been looking at doing something like this...probably a Samsung note 4 (because I have an old one), or raspberry Pi 3 with a touch screen...only real problem for me, is that my kitty has the 3 gauge dash ( sorta worthless IMO ) instead of the NAV system.

If only i could find an affordable dash set with the NAV window...

Default Galaxy Note 3

The Galaxy note 3 is a nice pick as it also has a built in GPS (I believe) and will work without phone signals or WiFi with downloaded TomTom Maps. I have been trying to figure out how to cram in a 7" tablet, but this is better as it is a prefect fit. I have been driving with TomTom Maps in my RV for years and they are great.

giogio, your installation looks great!

Most people go the other way and ditch SatNav for the 3 gauge conversion. Your 3 gauge set is harder to find than a nav setup. Post a trade or buy and should have offers.

Best.

I have got to agree that have to be hundreds of unused SatNav bezels out there based on how many Nav. to 3-gauge conversion kits I have sold over the years.
