Just noticed my roof lining is hanging down at rear of car on driver side. Other than this , the roof lining is perfect . Any advice on how it can be reattached securely ? See attached pic . It is an Xk8 4.2s final edition 2006.
Hi,
It looks like the fibreglass headlining shell has fractured on the curved edge. Ideally, you'd drop the headlining and put a repair patch on the hidden side, but removing it isn't for the faint hearted (lots to dismantle).
There is a velcro-type pad attached to the underside of the roof, and a corresponding pad on the headlining shell which is meant to support the lining in the middle. Try carefully pressing the headliining upwards in the centre along the line between the rear interior light and the rear edge, using a towel or similar to spread the pressure:- you should be able to feel the pad's location.
The fixing normally grips pretty well and hopefully will be all you need to do.
I have same problem but not broken in the middle ...tried to push it up but no joy ...will try the industrial spray glue used for carpets ..think I can just get the nozzle in to blast it .
When I changed my headlining, I discovered that the Velcro had been changed for a small press fit stud . This must have been the upgrade to solve this sagging problem (mine is a 2003 MY)
I had to detach the seat belt adjusters and quarter panel fixings to let them pull away from the glass and provide enough clearance to remove the old headlining and slide the new one in. It is especially awkward and great care is needed to not damage or soil the new material.. I kept the new headlining within it's shrink wrap and managed to get it into position before fully unwrapping it !
Phew! Thought I'd missed a trick. I had the passenger seat, console, rear seat & both rear quarter panels out and it was still a breath-holding moment bending it to go through the door opening.
