Default XK8 vs XKR suspension, upgrade.

This is my first post at this forum so hello to every one and thank`s for helping in advance.

Last year I did buy XK8 1999 cabrio. It was a mistake. The car was in bed condition and it is not R model. I had to rebuild engine and this year I did add supercharger. Now the car is much better. I love it and I will keep it for my grand children.

The suspension was terrieble and after I supercharged the car, sometimes I`m just scered!

I deciced to go for XK8 SUSPENSION repair KIT from "British Parts". It contains of (FRONT BALL JOINTS, ANTI ROLL BAR LINKS ROLL BAR MOUNT BUSHINGS, WISHBONE BUSHINGS AND LOWER SHOCK ABSORBER BUSHES) I will go for polly uper bush-wishbone.

I have heard that handing of XKR is much better. What is the diferend in parts (if no CAT)?? Can I go for upgrade to XKR parts? Which parts?

Or may be it is better to buy lowering springs and for example KONI adjustible shocks?

I`m living in Poland where the roads are not like the german ones. I would like to make car safe, sportiv but not to radical, stil have some comfort.

I am more interested how you supercharged an XK8, did you lower the compression, what did you do about the ECU?

And the suspension is basically the same from an XK8 to an R the main difference is XKR came with CATs as standard on 8s it was an option. I would not fit CATS I would rather remove them as I think it is more trouble than it is worth.

Oh yeah Hi and welcome to the forum :-)

Thanks for answering, but could you please advice me, recommend me how to upgrade my week suspension.

Regarding the charging i gues it`s the first mod like this. Tere is no sence to charge XK8 if you can by a XKR, but I did this. An prepering the web page with all info. For now cam tell you that the compression is stock for XK8 10,75. But I`m charging 0,4 MAX. I`m promessing that you will get all details soon. In few weeks. Than we will discus abiut it on forum. But it was worth to do this ;-)

looking forward to the writeup fishman!

Don't forget the upper shock mounts too, if you're doing the lower side of the suspension, might as well replace the crumbling upper mounts as well.

Thanks for helping.
I decided to buy Paramount springs, but should I go for Bilstein, or KONI adjustible??

I am partial to the Bilstein. They were the OEM shock. You probably won't go wrong with either, and maybe the KONI adjustable will allow you to dial in your personal preference. Hmmmm... I just contradicted myself... I guess it is a flip of the coin!
