XK8 Wont start
I've just acquired a 1997 Jag XK8 4.0 coupe with the intention of using it in a Shelby Daytona coupe that I am building (yes I know its sacrilege but hey ho!) and its arrived and its just too good to take apart but previous owner got rid of it as after he changed the battery it wouldn't start, infact it does nothing you turn on ignition and switch it to start and nothing (well it feels like a small click near gear selector but no cranking nothing. I know nothing about these wonderful cars but its almost as though the immobiliser or similar is on? The fob will open boot turn on lights and even flashes side lights when you unlock. Any suggestions as would love to get it going and drive the car????
Make sure the crashswitch isnt triped.. LH footwell on the side, behind trim..
Also big fuses behind cover next to battery in the trunk.
With electrical on, step on the brake, it should click near the gearshifter as it releases the stick in order to move it to other positions, somewhere ther is also the neutral switch as well.. if my memory serves me.. If the stick releases, make sure the indexes for what position the stick is at, follows nicely.. After all, if the gearbox doenst agree that the stick is at neutral it wont let you fire it up..
When you turn key to ignition on.. any codes? Have you checked if the OEBD reader has anything in store for you?
And.. since its quite old, check that the ground lead between gearbox and chassi under the car, on the left side isnt rotted out..
