Default XK8/XKR - Non-OEM interchangable Parts Thread

Thanks to zjdmm1 for the recommendation - this sticky is to provide an easily searched location for alternative, non-OEM part fixes for our XK8/R's. I will leave this open so others can add.

REAR VIEW Mirror FIX
HELP! I need a new rear view mirror clip for my XKR!
Does anybody know where I can get a replacement clip? I haven't been able to find a listing or part number on any of the dealer sites.
Thanks in advance!
The same mirror is fitted to an Acura tl - check if a clip is listed separately by an Acura dealer. Check my earlier post about the Acura part number for the mirror to help the search.
Thank you for your advice! My local Acura dealer came through for me. They looked up a clip using the application of a 2007 Acura TL. They came up with part #76419-SZ3-J05. They had one in stock...It's a perfect match! They charged me $6.07, including sales tax. A bargain, considering I found a used clip for $50 on the web.
You're welcome! You could have bought the whole mirror for another $74 and even at that the Acura dealer is making money - the same mirror is over $300 from a Jag dealer - pretty good mark up in anybody's world

Aftermarket coils

I saw this site recommended here and I recently purchased a complete set of these for around $300 as opposed to over $600 for OEM.

I can't take credit for the info.. I found the information buried in several forum threads.. I'd give credit to the original posters but I've been reading so much of the forum lately that I can't remember exactly who originally posted or what threads it was in... as always... YMMV ... I'm giving both a try...

Update: 5/9/2014 - Both are currently fitted on my 02 XKR. The WIX Air filter is an exact fit. The Motorcraft Oil Filter (per motorcarman) is a direct fit for the 4.2 engines (the 4.0 stock one is longer but using the Motorcraft one won't cause any issues) The Motorcraft threads, seals, and works just fine for my 4.0 engine

Here is another substitute for both left and right idlers:

Gates 36270, purchased at NAPA as NAPA part number NBH 36270.

It is metal and has inboard and outboard shoulders. I adjusted the width of the new serpentine belt to better fit the pulley. Here are pictures of the old pulley that failed and my nice ride.

Default '03 XKR XK8 Fuel Filter

This $10.00 filter (or it's equivalent) is available at most auto parts stores. Use the codes FF677 and/or G6340 for cross referencing. Just cut away the plastic clips and it's a perfect fit. Should be be good for at least '03, '04 and '05.

The catalogs will steer you toward the threaded end filter (also in the pic). I think they're for earlier cars than mine, but I don't have the specifics.

Default U Joints - these from GNK are genuine

I got some GNK U22 Universal Joints and was suspicious as to if they are really GNK's. They say GMB and made in Japan. I took Photos and contacted GNK. Emailed the pics. THEY ARE REAL.

Default Trunk lights diode & micro-switch

The inline connector from the trunk light plugs to their grounding lug is a one-way diode designed to keep the trunk lights from being energized by any electrical system feedback should the micro-switch fail.

The connector is marked 91 AG 10374 BA and is available through your local Ford dealer under part # E9RY-10374-A at a cost under $20.00.

The micro-switch is part# LNC6242AB and can be found on eBay and other sources used for $25-$35. Usually attached to some part of the latching mechanism which can be trashed if unneeded. It was used on both the XK8's and XJ's from 1997 - 2003 (at least & probably longer). It is mounted inside a small black case that is pretty fragile so I just used a small screwdriver (or pick) to release the four latches (one at each corner) and then removed the switch. Replaced with working switch and then re-latched.

You can test the switch without removing it by finding the wire connector (12"+/- from switch) and running a continuity check with a multi-meter with the trunk open. No tone means switch is defective as the switch is in the closed (or ON) position with the trunk lid raised.

The side marker bulb socket from a 2010 Ford F-250 is an exact replacement for those in my 2003 XK8.

Ford Part Number: F8RZ13K371AA

Here is a link to a source I found for only $7.10 USD:
www.group1autoparts.com/ford/f-250-super-duty/f8rz13k371aa/2010-year/xl-trim/6-4l-v8-diesel-engine/electrical-cat/side-marker-lamps-scat/?part_name=socket-left

Rusty XK8: "left and right idlers"; would that be TIMING CHAIN idlers? Nugs and novices need as much description as they can get! Thanks for the info.

Default Windshield Wiper Blades

My local Jaguar dealer no longer stocks the OEM wiper blades for my '99 XK8, only over the rubber refill. The Bosch Excel plus #41521 is an exact fit and the mountings are correct with no mods. $11.97 at NAPA.

Default 2000 xkr conv.

I am having trouble with the "donut" air intake seal #aj86925. They only last about 2-3k miles. The jag part is fraying on the edge and allowinge a vacuum leak. This lites up the restricted
proformance lite and rough running. Any ideas and is there a dupulicate part avail other than jag. This is getting old.
