XKR Engine Lump
Hi,
I have a 2001 XKR Convertible with a seized engine. Crankshaft will not budge at all.
As I search for a replacement engine and consider my options, a couple of questions arise:
1. Is it possible to replace the 2001 engine with a later model year unit?
I.e., a 2002 or 2003? What about a 2004 or later 4.2?Are there any electronics or space/fit problems with later MY engines?
2. Is it possible to remove the engine and leave the transmission in the car, bearing in mind that I cannot rotate the crank and access all of the torque converter bolts? Will the torque converter just come off the transmission input shaft? Is this just a fantasy?
Thank you for any advice and counsel!
Charlie

Thank you.
I have tried to rotate the crank in a clockwise direction with a breaker bar with a pipe extension with the most force. I pushed it counterclockwise but with less force. I'll try going counter clockwise with more behind it.

I bought an XJR with a couple of thrown rods and it was locked up- I pushed the crank back and forth until things were a bit looser and was able to turn it enough to remove the TC bolts. I later found a piece of a connecting rod embedded in the side of the motor!
Seller- "My wife overheated it, but it was turning over fine when we got it home, just wouldn't start" Sure buddy. I fortunately bought it at a price that reflected a parts car.

Update:
I have removed the engine and stripped it down to the short block. I took it to a reputable machine shop where two spun rod bearings are being fixed/repaired and replaced. Engine block has very low mileage and is otherwise in excellent condition.
I'm doing lots of parts washing and parts gathering in preparation for the upcoming reconstruction.
