I can’t recall the name of the piece, but it’s thin decorative chrome in the nose.
Anyway, mine had begun to peel, and it’s been on my list to replace or repaint. I decided to take it apart and see how bad it was.
I expected a paper thin film which I could scrape and sand, then prime and paint. Instead, I found a thick metal covering which peeled off in sections. It was like the thickest aluminum foil you can picture, and I used a metal scraper to get it loose without damaging the plastic beneath.
I then lightly sanded it, and primed with flat black. I used three coats of Dupli-Color Perfect Match Chrome, 20 min between coats. Let it dry a full day.
Attached are the pics. While this is not a mirror finish, I’m very happy with the results. The final product matches my silvery rims perfectly.
There are other chrome paints and Revel seems to make the best, but it wasn’t available quickly and I was happy with the results of this experiment.
