ZF 6HP26 TSB's
I keep seeing references to TSB JTB00040 Version 2 and that it has been replaced by TSB JTB00070 and JTB00071. Dealing with the whoop/squeal and adding an additive to the trans. I have searched all over and cannot find these TSB's. Does anyone know any links or can post these? I have a ZF 6HP26 and am in the process of changing the oils and pan.

Gus, Thanks for steering me to All Data. I got the info I needed after a little trouble. I have a 2006 XKR and to them it is the new XK. They have no listing for a 2004 or 2005 XK8 or XKR. They stop at 2003 and pick up again at 2006 which to them is the new XK. I emailed them and the reply was that Jag. probably did not import those models those years. I emailed them back and told them to look further.
I remembered then that all the JTIS information stopped in 2003 as probably there were no major changes after that. I think All Data may have lost a lot of business over that.
Thanks Again

Thanks to Gus I was able to find the TSB that I was looking for to aid me in getting rid of the whoop/squawk that I had in my ZF 6HP26 trans. This is a common problem in a lot of 6HP26's and has many threads and posts on BMW and Jag forums. The TSB calls for adding an additive, 1 ltr. to the trans. It has a Jag. part number but is actually a ZF rebranded item.
These trans are sealed for life and are a real bear to change the fluid. I pride myself in being able to change oil and filters without losing a drop but forget it with this job. You are going to make a mess. You need a special tool just to open the filler hole which has less than 2 inches of clearance and is right up against the hot exhaust. And the engine needs to be running to fill the trans. The tool is expensive, $75. was the cheapest one I found. One thread I found says you can use an extension and a universal. I found this not to be true, then found out the poster's car was an S model Jag.
I did not do the additive and went only with the fluid change and you can only change 6-7 ltrs. of the 10 required. I also changed the sump which which has a built in filter. Easy job. $150. part, not from dealer. I did not want to add the additive as I think of them as snake oil, not that they might not do some good.
I go back to STP and someone asked Andy Granatelli if STP really worked and he said "I donno, but it made me a hellva lot of money"
My reasoning was that if the whoop/squawk was gone fine. If not I'll add the additive. Well the oil change and the sump/filter change did the job. No more whoop/squawk. My car had 32000. on it.
As a last item and request, would someone with computer skills better than mine please start a "sticky" or folder of some sort that contains all the info pertaining to one item together? I have a Miata also and their forum has this feature and just tons of info on any part of the car.

StrateLoss, Sorry for the late reply but just came across your request.
I purchased the pan/filter from Ericksson Industries along with the gasket and some extra bolts. The cost at that time,10/2010 was $137.30 for the pan as listed on their website and I still have a printed copy. Now you have to call for price as per this link.

As to a special tool it is probably only required on the XK8/XKR's due to the exhaust being VERY close to the plug which is an allen head. I tried all kind of socket, swivel, extension setups but none would work. If someone knows of a way please post it as it could save you a lot of money.
Also there have been many posts as to people wringing the bolts off. I did not have any trouble with mine. 3 year old car with 32000 on it. There are 2 different size bolt head diameters, 22.5 and 28.5mm. Mine had the 28.5mm. which I think are for the plastic pans and the 22.5 for the aluminum pans. Maybe some early trans. came with the 22's and caused the trouble.
