Sounds like a possible issue with the immobilizer... Do you have more than one set of keys by chance? I would start with trying a different key if possible, it may be as simple as the key out of sync with the computer and the immoblizer is kicking in to prevent the car from starting...

Could be a failing battery. The gauges strongly point to this.

Also could be gear shifter out of alignment so not really in P even though it seems it is. Might try N.

How? Seriously. You need a storage 'scope to do this right nowadays due to the computers. Must maintain lots of volts during hard cranking. Yours sounds so poor it doesn't even crank. Did you try N as I (& now Gus) suggested?

You are not listening to what the guys are saying??

How old is your battery? Not that it has been tested. We can go no farther until we know this. As JagV8 said we have a clue since the gauges peg out and then come back down but that is only a clue.

Don't live with only one key. It will bite you. Get the proper key and FOB as a backup.

It's done really well to last so long but realistically is by far #1 suspect and quite a cheap thing to replace compared to most other suspects. Not THAT cheap as you need to buy a hefty one of the right type. Have a Search to see what others have been recommended recently.

No experience with this on my Jag BUT I have had this happen on 2 different cars and a motorcycle same symptoms. Get a good load test just because its showing good voltage doesnt mean its good. My 2 cents

Bad battery!

I had similar symptoms, and turned out to be the battery after all.
