Default 1995 XJ6 Security Alarm intermitent

I am now a proud owner of my mother inlaws 1995 Jag XJ6 with only 30k miles. I have had it since Nov and now it has a problem. when I lock the car the alarm will go off some times within 20 to 30 seconds and other times it could be 30 to 60 minutes. It never goes off at night time when the car is cool. I have checked all of the door locks and made sure they are all weel lubricated. It seems like it might be more of a heat related problem, because it only seems to go off after I have been driving it or if it is just sitting outside and the sun warms the car up. Any Ideas?
Is there any way I can just disable the alarm and still use the key fob to lock and unlock the doors?
Regards
Louie

You need to post in the XJ40, or X300 sections. If your car is "squared-off style it's and XJ40 model, if it's curvy, it's an X300; this one is for the Jaguar saloons made from 1969-1986, (last ones to the US in 1987).

Jaguar persisted with the XJ designation even though there were several designs of XJ6 right up to 1997, and then reintroduced the name from 2003 for the V6-engined aluminium saloons not exported to the US.

As for your problem, it could be the volumetric alarm, not a door switch. Can you turn this off ?

Thank youFraser, I am not sure what you mean by XJ40 or X300, all I know is that the Model as decribed from the dealer is a 1995 XJ6 4liter engine.
Where would I find the volumetric alarm? the service manual I have does not mention this. It talks about a SLCM

Hi All, Louie the X prefixes are the Jaguar designation letters. If you have a look around the forum main page you will see that all car sections commence with X this or that.

There is also an active thread over in the Off Topic section that talks about the X etc.

This is just a stab in the dark about your alarm issue but, are you sure that your trunk/boot is fully closed and locked down?

The reasonning; alarm goes off when hot during the day but not when cold at night.
Could the heat be causing the air in the boot to expand enough to raise the lid just enough to trigger your alarms. idem all doors. The bonnet/hood should not be an issue because it is obviously not an enclosed box.

Fraser, I did not know that these cars even had factory volumetric air pressure detection systems. Have you got any more info?

Cheers,

Thank you Translator, yes I have checked all of the usual things like the door latchs and boot latch, they all are clean and working well. Does anyone know how to just disarm the alarm, I really do not care if I have it on. All I want to do is be able to lock the car using the key fob and not have the alarm even be activated.

The alarm is hard wired into the main wiring loom at the factory, I can't see how you can just get rid of it.

Have you tried the Alarm resetting sequence for your year of car, outlined in the FAQ here ?

Just for extra info, I currently have my mothers Toyota sitting outside the house. The keyfob sets the alarm and locks the doors as it should. But after a random period of time the alarm will suddenly and for no apparent reason go off.

All doors locked, no wind, and no-one within 500yds.

Annoying to say the least.

However it turned out to be a very slightly badly positioned door seal allowing the doors to lock etc but when things relaxed there was just enough movement in the door to fire the alarm.

This was discovered by having someone lock me in the car from the outside and then me pushing on each door from inside until the alarm fired.

Just a thought.

Also try simply locking the doors by turning the key and not using the fob.

Thank you all for your respnces, but now I have my car at a jag specialty place and they have had it for two days and they have found nothing yet other than confirmed that it does go off on it's own. I sure wish I could find a way to just disable it
