My XJR is showing an OBD II computer code 1797. Any help with diagnosis?

Thanks for the input, but what exactly does "CAN TCM/ECM Circuit Malfunction" mean and what is the suggested repair?

Did your check engine light come on and this code is what you read afterwards, or did you just try to read codes and this came up?

The ECM and TCM (and ABS) communicate through a CAN buss (controller area network) that is a high speed network. The fault code means that there was a missing communication between the the 2 modules. It could be a harness or connector fault. (less likely a module fault) It will be easier to find if it is a permanent fault. It is harder to find an intermittant fault because you have to guess or catch it when it happens.

The ABS module is mounted on the inter fender panel at the left front of the engine. It's that thingy with 6 rigid brake lines coming out the top. There are two connectors. Remove, clean, dielectric grease, connect. The ABS module has a history of breaking the connector contact on the circuit board and causing come-and-go codes. It can be disassembled, soldered and reassembled. Try the connectors first.

The ABS light is one flag, the CANetwork links the ABS to ECM. With no where else to start the ABS circuit board is as good as any since it does have a history of failure and strange codes.
