Hi shtekler,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums. It's great to have you with us.
I know that Coventry West, one of our forum sponsors, rebuilds steering racks. They will sell you a rebuilt rack and have you send them your old rack, called the "core," in exchange. Over the years I've purchased two racks from them and have been pleased.
Cheers,
Don

I know this might be too simple to be true, but my steering rack was leaking badly and I just tried power steering stop leak a couple of times, and it stopped. I don't know why, but it did and it has been about two months and I haven't had to add any fluid. For a couple of dollars it might be worth a try. Couldn't hurt anyway.

Thanks for your respond but (don't take it personally )
I don't think it is a good idea, from my experience
1- I had a SAAB that some one add some grease and I stuck with very hard steering wheel, and a rack full with grease
2 my Jag some one add some look like molykote grease, that I didn't know I replaced the rack and now i have a big leak and need to flush the system the thicker hydraulic contaminated oil is damaging the pump and the rack. my opinion

I do not take it personally at all. You wrote about someone putting grease into you cars steering rack. Any kind of grease is not designed or recommended for fluid mechanical systems like a power steering rack. The only thing surprising about your experience is that someone would even consider putting grease in your system. That was dumb and I am not surprised that it didn't work. What I was suggesting is putting a product in the steering rack system that was designed specifically for stopping leaks in power steering systems and would not cause any of the problems you wrote about. Many times the only problem with steering racks are the seals dry out that help contain the power steering fluid. The product I am talking about helps re-seal the system so it no longer leaks. It worked in my case, but do whatever you like. It was just a suggestion.
