Fuel injector hoses

Fuel injector hoses
I need to replace my fuel hoses and was wondering about the weird ferrules.
A. Can't I just reuse them? If I cut out the old hoses what prevents me from reusing them?
B. What do these ferrules even do? From my understanding there are barbs on the ends of the injectors, wouldn't a hose clamp suffice?

the top of the injector , and the pipe on the fuel rail have a pair of ridges on them , these are used in conjunction with a ferrule , the pipe pushes over the ridged tube ,
and the end of the pipe sits inside the ferrule stopping the end from flaring
this mechanism holds the pipe tight to the tube
if this type of termination is used with a hose clamp , the pipe will be cut by the ridges and compromise the security of the joint, so a barbed fuel rail must only be used with the correct fuel pipe and ferrules to terminate as per original installation
earlier fuel rails used smooth tubes , and hose clamps around the fuel pipe , but these proved to be problematic and were replaced with the above method, saying that, if you have an earlier fuel rail , the clamp method should be reused , as this is the only way the fuel pipe will grip the tubes on the fuel rail and injectors

No good reason at all ....IF you can get the hoses off without destroying the ferrules :-)
Contact Dave here:
Jaguar Fuel Injector Service
...and see what price he has on the ferrules.

A quick search found this link for which I am grateful.
My '89 HE seems well looked after for 200k Km but I was worried about the fuel hoses. Rightly so as this is what I found. Delaminated hoses.
Strangely, one hose end had a ferrel while all others has clamps. This thread put me straight on not to use hose clamps and bought the complete kit from Master (not Mister) Injector UK.
Hose internal delamination
Clamps previously used instead of ferrels

My 88 has clamps on the injector hoses, although the connectors are barbed. The hoses were replaced by the PO five yrs ago. Not leaking, but will be ditching clamps when the hoses get renewed in the near future. I wonder how many later cars had mechanics use clamps out of ignorance?
Those are some crusty injectors! Are you getting them cleaned? Ultrasound cleaning tanks seem quite affordable. Thinking of going that route as no shop locally that seem to do it. Got my hose and injector refurb kit from Mr injector in UK. There's a Master injector too it seems.....

It may just be an access thing. I am not convinced the clamps would do great damage if torqued correctly. More significantly, it seems all to common that these hoses only get replaced everything 20 years for most XJS owners. If clamps made it easier and increased service frequency, then maybe it is worthwhile.
Unfortunately my XJS daily driver of 10 years was totaled in 2019, which is why I have not been active on these boards. Still, I am glad to see the search function helping others out. Also, I was not able to remove the old hoses without damaging at least a few of the ferrules. The old hoses were rock hard and took a significant amount of work to remove.
