Default Who does ECU repairs in the US?

Is there anyone in the US who does ECU repairs for our Jags? I'd like to have the ECU in my '90 looked at to see if everything is working as designed.

Thanks!

Mark

Google AJ6 Engineering. They are a Uk firm, but ship worldwide and they are the only people who actually understand the jaguar ECUs, as far as I know. They can refurb it, and sell you upgraded bits too, which transform the car.

Hi Greg,
I already sent an email over to Roger at AJ6 and await his reply but I'd still like to know if anyone in the US has the knowledge and provides service for our ECU's.
I see some companies offering service for the later cars such as the XK8 but not for our XJS's.

He can be a bit slow on the email. Best to phone him - Denver plus 8 hours I think, so a breakfast time phone call should get him having a nice cup of afternoon tea!

I'm also interested in this response.

Unfortunately, I don't believe AJ6 does anything with the GEMS6 ECU my 96MY uses.

Most places I have checked seem to want you to tell them what's wrong. I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for. I was hoping to find someone that can put the box throught its paces so they can fix not only the issues I know about, but perhaps some issues I wasn't aware of!

I believe thats what AJ6 Engineering does, and if they do, THAT'S who you want!

I sent my 1997 XK8 ECU to SIA electronic inc. in Tilden il. and they did a complete rebuild on it, due to several broken capacitors and other issues. Dropped it back in and the car has run great since. (all last summer) The cost was under $300, which I was very happy with.
Unfortunately, I also sent my 1993 XJS 4.0 ECU to them and they told me it was not repairable due to they were not able to get the older parts. needed to fix it. They did diagnose it and found the problems, but no parts available. Maybe yours doesn't need the parts mine did, it might be worth a try to send it to them and have them diagnose it. I don't remember what they charged me for the diagnose it, but I know it wasn't much. I was very happy with this company. Good luck

Mark,

Google "Shade Tree Software", they are out of Boulder. While they focus on VAG group stuff, Steve may be able to direct you to someone local / or be willing to take a stab at it himself.

Cheers,

Jeff

My 94 XJS 4.0L ECU had some problems due a lot of rain for several weeks in a
row which caused a lot of mildew on the PCB's (printed circuit boards) like the ECU.
Radio Shack had nice contact cleaner that I used on the ECU connectors and
on the plug pins. I also used it on any connectors I could reach that were part of
the ignition path. I connected everything back together and the car ran great. No more stumbling and hesitation.
I took the ECU apart to examine for damaged components.
I did notice that the electronics on the module are pretty rugged.
I did take a soldering iron to a few solder joints to reflow the solder where they
looked a little weak to me.
Any capacitors cans that are "popped" is an indication of some serious
voltage/current overloads. Same goes for any signed of burned PCB areas.

I noticed that the location of the ECU in the 94 XJS is on the right side (passenger)
foot well covering. And the cable connectors are oriented on the top facing edge
of the module. This allows moisture to fall into the connectors and caused the mildew
and/or corrosion of the connector pins which caused the intermittent failures of my
ECU. Keep it dry and keep it clean!
