Motor Mount Question
I have a 1996 XJS with the AJ16.
I am planning on replacing my motor mounts. I ordered an aftermarket part by URO. The specified part number on JDHT is MMB7520BA
The part I received is marked on the URO bag as JLM1010, however there is a sticker on the bag that references the part as MMB7520BA.
Are they the same part?

I don't know if they are actually interchangeable....or even 'close enough to work'....but JDHT shows two distinctly different applications

Considering that replacing them isn't a 10 minute job you're wise to verify this!
Others will chime in

I made the decision to deviate from my usual stance on ordering OEM parts because I thought they met my two sticking points:
1. Cash savings. There was a significant amount of savings. (I got both mounts for $50 total, shipped. Ordering OEM is close to $150)
2. Ease of installation. I thought these were pretty simple to change out. Loosen some nuts, jack up the engine and swap them out. Anything la or intensive get OEM parts. I understand these are relatively easy to replace if things go bad.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. Basically I have found out the following:
1. Jaguar has a bunch of slightly different part numbers for the different motor mounts for each model and each engine, even though they may look the same. I found those parts, from Jaguar are at least $50 a piece before shipping. This includes eBay.
2. Many places sell the URO branded parts for about $15 a piece, shipped. (RockAuto). I happen to have one of the two motor mounts and without comparing it to what I have in the car already, looks pretty good. Has metal on the ends and threads are protected with a sleeve. Not bad.
3. I also couldn't resist and ordered a part from XKS for under $10. I believe MTC makes this part, and it looks like crud. Comparing it to the URO part, I would not recommend it. No metal on the ends, no protection, the rubber looks hard and glossy. I ended up reordering a URO part from Rockauto, so I can at least have two consistent part manufacturer. (They don't sell any other manufacturers for the mounts)
What I did learn is that if you're not ordering OEM Jaguar mounts, you will receive JLM1010 and JLM1009 part numbers, so you may as well save yourself some time and money and search for what it is you'll actually receive.
When I typed in the correct part numbers (MMB7520BA and MHC7521AA) on the URO company website, it did automatically show me those parts, so URO believes they are interchangeable.

Job complete.
Oddly enough, both springs looked good, as did both sets of rubber bushings. Even though JDHT only specifies one lower springs seat (CBC1883) and one upper spring set (CAC9393), my assembly had two of each, protecting each end of the springs. I used the one new one that I bought where specified, and re-used the old one (after a cleanup) at the other end.
The springs also looked just fine. I ordered two new ones anyways, (CBC4744 and CBC4745) but was disappointed to learn I had purchased two CBC4744s. One of the springs was incorrectly packaged. Damn you eBay! I made that purchase awhile ago. I'll see if I'm able to return it.
What was a complete disaster was the old MHC7521AA part. JDHT calls it out as MHG7566AA. It was our old friend Jaguar Orange Foam. It had completely disintegrated. The URO part I replaced it with is rubber, so from the looks of the other rubber parts, this is probably the last time I am going in there. Everything other than this "Foam Buffer" looked in good shape.
Other than making sure you have plenty of degreaser on hand, it's pretty straightforward except for two things:
1: you may want to have some kind of black paint on hand to spray over any of the areas that have been scratched off by the metal coils over the years. I use a self priming black epoxy spray paint.
2. This is more important. In order to re-assemble the transmission mount parts and bolt it back together for re-installation, you will need at least two M8-1.25 bolts at least 1-1/2" (or 40mm) long. You'll also need a clamp. That will hold the assembly tight enough so you can install the original bolts back in. You'll assemble it with the long bolts, locking everything in place, and then clamp it together even tighter so you can work that third (original) bolt in. Then replace the remaining long bolts with the shorter bolts. You have to align three parts with holes to make this work. If you know a better way, I'd love to hear it.
After that you will need a jack to help press the assembly back in place.
I did not need to take apart any exhaust piping, or anything else. There are four 13mm bolts holding the assembly together, then, once out, the assembly sandwich is held together with three 10mm bolts. Couldn't be simpler.
Ultimately if you choose to do this you will have to decide whether or not you want to replace the following:
2 x CBC1883
2 x CAC9393
1 x MHC7521AA (absolutely need to replace)
1 x CBC4744
1 x CBC4745
I used OEM springs, URO rubber parts everywhere else.

By the way, in replaced my motor mounts as well.
Thought I should add the following:
1. You will need a 9/16" wrench to loosen the nut on the top of the mount. You will need a 15mm to loosen the nut on the underside of the mount. The underside nuts come with washers, the top ones do not.
2. The power steering hoses are in the way of the underside nut on the drivers side mount. What a pain it is to do that job in the blind. In order to get the nut (and washer) back on, I squirted some dielectric grease into a 1/2" drive 15mm socket and got the nut to take. The grease held the nut and washer in the socket as I rotated my way through and around the power steering hoses so I could get the nut back on.
3. OEM manufacturer is indeed Metalastik. My old parts were still in good shape and probably did not have to change it out. I replaced them with URO branded mounts.

Vee,
thanks for the detailed description.
I have a 1995 XJR and as my garage is replacing my motor mounts, I would love if you could clarify:
- Is there a physical difference between the left and right motor mounts?
- Which URO is the right part: JLM 1010 or JLM 1009?
- How are the URO motor mounts holding up in your car since you replaced them?
Thanks much

Steve,
The 1995 XJR uses the same RH mount as the XJS which is MMB7520BA £35 from Jaguar. The original LH mount for the XJR is MNA7521AA. That's not available from Jaguar, but many places say that supersedes to the XJS part number MHC7521AA which is still available from Jaguar for £28.
Hope that helps.
