Jaguar XJR575 gets sinister hues to match sinister power and prowess.

With the help of Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division, the Jaguar XJR has been given increased firepower. Topping the XJ range is the new XJR575, which, as you may have guessed, has 575 horsepower. That 25 horsepower bump over the standard XJR is paired with 517 lb-ft of torque at just 2,500RPM, for maximum urgency. Of course, this big power comes from Jaguar’s flagship 5.0L supercharged V8 engine. 0-60MPH is quoted as happening in just 4.2 seconds, impressive hustle for the full-size sedan. The big XJ does indeed offer urgency, all the way to its “limited” top speed of 186MPH, or 300 kilometers-per-hour for our European readers.

Lest you think the XJ has gone hotrod, Jaguar assures us that it is still the luxury spaceship of choice for long stretches of pavement. Jaguar’s Design Director, Ian Callum had this to say.

“This is a performance vehicle, but that doesn’t mean we have had to cut any corners when it comes to comfort or design. Jaguar is the standard bearer for interior refinement and the XJR575 is no different. It can go very quickly, but it does so with the serene comfort customers expect from a Jaguar sedan. That makes this a very special car indeed.”

Remember that 186MPH top speed we were just talking about? Well, to prove just how quickly the XJR575 can reach it, Jaguar has released a fun, little video. Watch as Jaguar SVO Projects Director, Wayne Burgess, takes the XJ to that top speed. Burgress is accompanied by Amanda Stretton of Panasonic-Jaguar Racing, who gets down to the nitty-gritty of the XJR575.

Pricing and availability of the mega sedan are to be announced later this year. Stay tuned for further coverage of the Jaguar XJR575 right here, on JaguarForums.com.
