Sydney (AU) mechanic to check/fix head gasket?
Hi All,
Does anyone know of any mechanics in the South West of Sydney (or nearby)?
I currently get my car serviced at Alto in St Leonards but it's a long haul (3 hrs return in traffic).
I'd like to get a local mechanic who I can trust with repairs.
Any advice appreciated.
Troy.

Hello Troy,
May come to nothing but I will ask my brother where he gets his cars serviced . . . somewhere near him at Menai. Penshurst or Padstow comes to mind? Think they are euro rather than just Jaguar specific, but I know he has commented on their skill and reasonable charges. He drives Citroen which, being non-English speakers, have to be far more problematic than Jaguars!!! Mais oui . . .
Too late to call him now but will post when I have news.
Cheers and best wishes,
Ken

Hey Troy, just wondering about reference to head gasket in your initial post.
Not prying, but are you handy with the tools yourself. I ask because any query about a failed head gasket suggests you have a specific problem you are trying to solve. Give us a hint and perhaps we can help pinpoint issues.
Similar worries on a very late '94 XJ40 saw me unable to find my compression tester . . . bought a great new one at Supercheap for about $50 (next day found my original). Remarkable value considering it is the go to tool for positively diagnosing piston & ring wear vs head gasket or valve/seat failures. Knowing which could save you time and big money.
Cheers,
Ken

Thanks for your tips guys - I had actually just dropped my car off at Greg of Parsons Motors (in Dural) aka "Dr Jag". He's a wonderful jag mechanic - seems to have fixed my two nagging issues in one day...not that I say this often after returning from a mechanic but: best $1k I've spent

Hi Troy . . . Good to hear you are all sorted.
Long time fan of Parsons as we lived for many years on New Line Road at West Pennant Hills. After packing your rations and 5-day survival kit, was it on Jim's recommendation that you headed all the way over to Arcadia/Dural? If so, well done Jim. Easy to recommend someone who consistently offers top quality service.
Cheers,
Ken

Hey Ken,
I'm not sure if it's the same mechanic that Jim mentioned, Arcadia is a few km's away from Parson's location at Dural....but it does seem a bit of a coincidence!
Actually, it wasn't so bad getting there. Once you resign yourself to the fact you're in for a 2 hour trip on public transport, it's okay...sort of a Sydney "tour" when you're not used to long-haul bus trips through areas you're not familiar with :-)
