Default 2 post lift points for Series 2 e-type FHC

Hello,

I am new to the forum so if I am asking a stupid question or a question that has been repeatedly asked, please forgive me. I have a 1969 E-type FHC. I am purchasing a 2 post lift and I would like to know the best positioning for the the 4 lift pads. I started working on this car by jacking it up but it's too dangerous and jack stands are a pain and do not allow sufficient room to work (trying to change out the 90 degree speedometer connector on the transmission).

I am concerned about doing damage to the car body if the arms are not correctly positioned.

Hi Bruce ... and greetings from over the BIG pond;

You have asked a really great question ... would that many more owners back in the E-Type's early years had shown your care for an easily crushed under-sill body. However, as the title of this section notes, your question would be better posted over in the section specific to your Jaguar model - the E-Type section. No drama, but that will leverage a broader readership of your post.

Perhaps we can entice you to post some pics of your E-Type on the hoist when sorted?

Not sure about the answer to your original full-lift jacking points question (I've always used only partial lifts via the hard points) - you are right to be super-cautious on that. But on your speedo drive 90-deg gearbox replacement activity: the usual access to that is from inside the car - remove central console, remove top sheet metal cover on transmission tunnel, and you are right at the speedo drive. Your car's previous owner(s) may even have cut a bodged access port through the right side of the transmission tunnel to gain easy access from the interior? I'm not sure if you can easily get to that 90-deg mini-gearbox from under the car?

Another caution if you have never lifted this car before, be careful as the rear is lifted off the ground that the IRS does not experience the earth's gravity for the first time. On more than one occasion, an old IRS has come loose as the perished rubber insulated mounting blocks gave way - a truly "independent" rear suspension

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the information...I'll see what access I may have from inside as respects that 90 degree connection...currently my speedometer jumps around as if its waving goodbye...the cable turns and the head is fairly new so I hope that connector is the guilty party.

Anyway, I hope someone out there has had experience with the two post, 4 pad lift...I sure don't want to try to balance the car on the jack points!

I am certain that there are perfectly safe points to lift it with the 2 post lift.
