Default E-Type Clock.

Hi all, I am trying to repair the non working clock from my 68 FHC. The clock has a holder for a battery, and some wires that connect to the car's electrical system for the light.
Does anyone know which size/type battery is required for the clock? Has anyone ever repair one of these clocks successfully?
Any and all help is appreciated.
thanks,
Bill.

Those batteries are hard to find. You should contact Mike Eck who can repair your clock and convert the battery to either the car power source or a more common battery.

Sent mine to him for clean up and repair and conversion to AA battery rather than powered by car. He did a great job!

I chose the AA battery route because every time I remove the car battery for service ( I have a knife switch on the negative terminal) the clock would need adjusted. This way with an AA battery I might have to change it a few times a year if that.

TX69XKE,
Thanks for the additional information. I am thinking about the same thing. An additional reason to go with the AA battery, is so that I don't have another source to potentially draining the car's battery.
Again, thanks for the info.
Bill.

You can't get the original batteries because of the mercury content, but the LR50 is a direct replacement. I get them online from "The small battery company". Not expensive.
I cleaned my clock up, fitted the LR50, nothing happened - so I banged it on the table a few times and away it went! Been going great for 5 years now. Battery normally lasts a year.

Thanks dibbyandco. We have a Battery store near by. I'll see if they carry that battery. Thank you also for explaining the repair procedure.

Hi all,
This is an update on my original post regarding the clock on my 68 E-Type. I tried to find a battery locally but couldn't. I did find the battery at SNG I think, but the more I thought about it, I decided to have the clock redone. TX69XKE recommended Mike Eck at jaguarclock.com.
I sent Mike the clock with a $100 check and instructions to upgrade the clock to work with a AA battery. Two weeks later I received the clock all redone and keeping time. The clock looks great and I couldn't be more satisfied with it.
If anyone need their clock fixed / upgraded, I recommend Mike Eck. Below are a few photos of the finished product. Compare to the condition of the clock in my original post.
Stay safe everyone.
Bill.

I'm happy to head that Mike did a great job for you, as he did me. The idea of an AA battery powered clock makes so much sense. Now when I disconnect my battery to work on some aspect of the car, I don't have to worry about resetting the clock.

TX69XKE, I agree with your reason for having the clock upgraded to use an AA battery. I also didn't want anything that would be drawing down the battery.
Bill.
