fuel pump noise suppressor? Or a arc resistor? Or...
Hi All,
See pictures
Just replaced the fuel pump on my 1971 series III 2+2 V-12. From the leads clipped on the pump, each goes to a splitter, one of the wires (after the splitter) loops back around to the other lead with a diode/resistor looking thing 'in line' with wax ends. The whole wire is about 4" long at best, the resistor looking thing is about 1 1/2" long, the wire coming out of one end of this 'diode' looking thing broke off right at the wax seal.
Is it a noise suppressor?
Pump is still in the boot spare tire well, not re-installed in fender well yet. Pump does run along with the car without this wire connected.
What is this diode/resistor looking thing and how where would I get a replacement? Is it necessary?
Thanks!!
Mark

As I suggested in your other Thread on this matter, the factory supplied wiring for the fuel pump circuit doesn't have what you have described. There is not even a fuse in the standard fuel pump circuit (refer to the wiring schematic I attached in your other Thread).
What you have described was probably added to suppress noise.
The fuel pump for an S3 E is double ended with points at each end. The pump will still operate (one set of points only) with the splitter wire disconnected from one end, albeit with the attached end working twice as hard.
Regards,
Bill
