Default I found a local ad for an E type project.

Here it is:
What are your thoughts? What should I ask this guy? Are the parts worth anything?

Thanks

Just looking at the pictures it looks like the body is mostly complete and the rear end and engine is complete.

1. What work has been done on the car so far?

2. What parts are missing? If possible have him provide an inventory.

3. What documentation comes with the car? These should include receipts of what's been done.

I would want a personal inspection before making a purchase decision.

I have asked some basic questions on what's missing. I can see front and rear suspension, an engine, a flywheel, I think, but unless virtually everything is there, I think he's got a collection of parts, not a car.

The value of a complete car of the same year seems to be all over the place, so at this point I'm just curious rather than seriously shopping. I have my 911 project to unload first.

this is an estate sale, plus they have a 340, seen here- http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pm...610939757.html

If the monocoque and bonnet have been redone from bare metal with all issues taken care of, if the rear-end and engine have been rebuilt properly (where's the gearbox?), and if all the ancillaries pictured have been restored - then the $10,500 is a MORE than fair price (regardless of what else might be missing). But don't kid yourself - there is no such thing as an inexpensive E-Type restoration, particularly from the starting point pictured for this car.

"No Title" ... I'd want to make sure that can be remedied if you're considering it. I hear horror stories all the time in the vintage motorcycle world.

I have responded to the ad, but no reply yet. Yeah, the title is a major issue, plus it's from an estate, plus I have no idea what parts are there.
And it mentions California, so that may complicate the title issue even more.

California is a nightmare with titles.... the vehicle needs to have the VIN in two (2) places on the car before they will even consider titling it

The ad popped up again. Not much of a drop though

Making them almost unsaleable in California and perhaps elsewhere in the US?

That would explain why we get basket case and part restored ex-Californian E-Types turning up for sale over here.
