Default New tires for 73 e type Roadster

I am looking to purchase a new set of tires for my 73 e type roadster. It currently has Michelin 225/70/15 MXV4 tires on it. I would like to find a good performing tire with good ride quality. Any recommendations?

Unless there is a reason you want to switch brands, I would keep what is on it. Never had experience with the MXV4 tires on your particular vehicle but, have used them on Cadillacs and found them to be outstanding.

I am also looking for tires for my 74 E type. Previous owner had Michelin 215 70R15 tubeless with tubes. Not what I want to do. I can't find tubed tires. What did you decide to do?

The correct size is 205/70/15. One S3 I have came with 215/70/15 and breaks the bonnet gas strut if the steering is on full left lock.

Although the actual tire dimensions vary between manufacturers, the theoretical increase in rolling circumference between a 205/70/15 and a 225/70/15 is 88mm (3.46in).

Regards,

Brent

I am aware of the correct size! I want to purchase tubed tires for my car. I have found 2 web sites, one in England and Lucas. Just wondering what people were coming up with. I see that some sites list a tube for a radial tire.

Buy 'tubeless' tires and use tubes. I think it's pretty common....or used to be years ago, at least.

Correct Doug. When installing tubeless tires on a tube rim, must use tubes. Coker Tire has both tube and tubeless. If you want radials, they will come as tubeless and you must mount with tubes. Coker Tire has an ask us on website and you will get an answer in 24 hrs. Verdstien tires come both ways too.

Make sure that all labeling is removed from the inside of the tubeless tire, when using a tube....In addition, the inside of the tire must be clean , and free from any roughness or debris...It takes very little to puncture the tube, when it rubs against the inside of the tubeless tire.
Finally, a little talcum/baby powder inside the tire, will reduce friction on the tube.

I just put on BFG radial TA
215-65-15
They fit well.
The wire wheels don't require tubes do they?
thanks

they only need tubes if the rubber belt is leaking. I had 4 new tires put on, two were fine without tubes, two needed tubes. Find a tire place that know about wire wheels, they will likely have a tire tank to check for leaks.

With the restoration on my 74 E-type almost completed, I am looking for replacement tires. Based on what I have gathered, the replacement should be Dunlop Acquajet 205/70/15's. I have not been able to locate a supplier in Ontario, Canada for this brand of Dunlop. Anyone have any suggestions?

The proper Dunlop ER70VR15 tires are available but they aren't cheap. With modern compounds they're far better than the originals and I think they just look right.
