Default Radiator cooling fans not working

Fans are not turning on temperature keeps climbing (also horn doesn't work?), I'm new to the e-type and not sure where to look, i'm guessing it would be best to start with the relay or fuse (don't know where to find these). Any ideas would be appreciated, Thanks.

I found the fuses, and checked the Horn/Cooling fan relay fuse for continuity (ohm meter), checked out ok, is there another connection downstream from this fuse that is shared by the horn and cooling fans?

I found the horn relay tough to get at, gave it a couple of taps with the end of a screwdriver, now it's clicking when the horn is button is pushed. I'm thinking that both the horn and fan relays (coincidentally) are defective and will be replacing both. The car has been sitting for some time which may have contributed to this.

Hi OZBIE,
It would help greatly to know which series and model year E-type was are discussing. I would advise you to get a wiring diagram and shop manual if you don't have one. I like the XKs Unlimited "wiring diagrams for the complete restorer". It a book and has each system, ex. fuel system, ignition system....ETC. It's much larger than the shop manual and easier to read.

I am not familiar with the E-type, but a switch called an "Otter switch" was commonly used for detecting coolant temperature, and switching on the fans.

I replaced the coolant relay with a general purpose relay from NAPA, worked like a charm, cooling fans now work.
