Default Blown 35t 2017 S

I have an opportunity to purchase one with a seized engine. Do you guys think it would be easy to swap in a new motor or rebuild it?

Welcome to the forums Paldi,

The description 'seized' covers a lot of possibilities from timing failure to a rod hanging out of the side of the block.

The easiest and most cost effective solution would be fitting a good 'used' motor of the identical specification. To rebuild as a DIY project is very expensive in parts alone and a professional rebuild would inevitably make the project considerably more costly than buying a good vehicle instead. Another complication is Jaguar inventory has never recovered since the pandemic lockdown and more parts are becoming unavailable.

The service rep I spoke with said the motor overheated due to a coolant leak. It was towed from the dealership to the auction.

Thanks for the warm welcome and helpful suggestion. I'll be on the prowl for a used 35t motor from a wrecked S.

The kiss of death to an aluminium Jaguar engine.

I see used 35t motors on eBay for about $8,000 with 50k miles or so. $11,000 for "stage 2" rebuilt motors. I'm wondering what it might cost for labor?

If I was to ask the dealer to put the car up on a lift, would the underside of the motor and transmission be visible or is there a splash tray of some sort that needs to be removed first?

You will see nothing from underneath with the Undertray in position:

There's a lot of bolts but it only takes around ten minutes to remove it:

Thanks, I will ask the seller to let me take a look, since they will not permit me to take it to a nearby Jaguar dealership to have it checked out.
