Default I'm puzzled....

This rather strange thing has happened a couple of times, and I have no idea what is going on. Two days ago, I parked the F-Pace (2020 "S") in the garage, so I could wash it, out of the direct sunlight. After I parked the car, I set the keys on a stool, about 7-8 feet behind the car. At this point the car is unlocked. I grab the hose, and start to rinse the car down, and the lights flash, the outside mirrors retract (as part of the locking settings), and the doors lock. I did NOT touch the car or trigger the fob. This is the second time that this has happened.

Any ideas of what's going on?

The water from the hose may have triggered the keyless locking.

Or automatic re-locking may have occurred depending on your circumstances.

Hi Leadfoot4 - well, I have a 2017 F-Pace Sport and it does the same on a regular basis if the key is anywhere within the vicinity of the SUV while washing.
It is not only the door sensors, but water sprayed elsewhere on the panels, even wiping them, can trigger the lock / unlock mechanism.
Frustrating when the vehicle insists on locking then unlocking several times - solution is to keep the key well away from the vehicle.

I also had a situation where the car would not start even with the key sitting on the centre consol - I had to put it right beside the sensor on the steering column before it responded. A replacement battery in the key fob solved that problem, but the dealer told me anytime the key is within several metres of the vehicle they keep having a friendly chat which in time will deplete the key fob battery.

The same happens with my XK but I'd thought it was just proximity and hadn't made the connection with washing the car.

Thanks for the info. At least I know that I'm not crazy, even though the car sometimes acts it. Apparently it's a sign of living in the 21st century, as I've always thought that I'm in charge of the car, not the other way around.

Well, I washed the F-Pace again, today, and made sure that the keyfob was 30 feet from the car. No spooky behavior.....
