Default Jaguar Extended Manufacturer Warranty

Hi everyone, new user

I just bought a certified pre owned 2019 Jaguar F pace 30t Portfolio.

Some details - 10800km, first service done, 90-100% remaining tires brakes etc. paint interior mint

Now. My question is, is the extended warranty worth the price?

The car as a cpo comes with a warranty till April 2024 160000km. I purchased an extended warranty through the manufacturer for $4800+gst = $5000 (3 years so till April 2027)

I have 30 days to get a full refund on the warranty and have been strongly considering cancelling it. I was thinking of putting the $5k aside as a repair fund in a savings account.

Reasons for keeping it - piece of mind for 7 years, help in resale value, cover my *** from repeat large repairs.

Reasons for refund - save $ now, put $5k aside and earn some interest over the 4 years, most likely any major defect i will notice in first 4 years anyway. I baby my cars and always keep up with maintenance. It already has 10000km and has had no issues on carfax or service history.

There isnt a whole lot of data out there on F pace repairs. Majority of issues have been with infotainment systems while vehicle was under warranty. This is my first Jag and would love some input on if paying $5k for 3 years extra is worth it. The resale value on the jag in 4 years will be ~40% of what i paid by then anyway.

I hope you fine enthusiasts can provide some guidance.

Seems a huge amount to pay for something that will be heavily depreciated when the warranty starts ! If you want some peace of mind get a warranty that just covers the major components. I think you're looking far too far ahead on this car; a lot can change before 2024 comes up.

I think i am looking too far ahead. I do plan on keeping this truck for 5-6 years minimum. Obviously a lot can change. This warranty is from Jaguar and extends factory warranty for 3 additional years, not 3rd party.

in 4 years im looking at 18-22k of value on the F pace but again car values cant be predicted.

Luckily i do have 30 days to decide and still get a full refund according to the warranty contract that i read over.

That's the way I'd go, put the cash aside and have it ready if needed.

I havent owned a Jag before and online likely due to fact F pace hasnt been around very long there isnt a lot by way of reviews. Seems that major issues happen early. The 4 years would catch that.

Im also a low mileage driver, maybe 10-12000km a year tops and i baby my cars. Im not driving them hard.

Luckily i have some time to get the refund.

thank you for your reply

We are on our second F Pace. Never had an issue with our '17 S, but I know there are some out there that have. That being said, the extended warranty never covers what the original warranty does. If they tell you that it does, they are misrepresenting it. I often covers parts and not labor, and as others have stated, usually only major components. They usually find ways to say it's not covered. In my experience, they are never worth the cost. You'll save more, and may get better service, to find a reputable, independent repair shop for anything after the original factory warranty expires. I've even had Jaguar dealerships (certain people there) recommend independent shops.

Also, $5K is way too much. Even if it is Canadian dollars!

Hey thank you for reply.

So I went over entire warranty terms. It covers parts labour and everything the manufacturer warranty does. Only thing is it has a small deductible. The warranty is transferable and if I don't use it can get $1000 cash back or credit at JLR for new warranty on future purchase. The dealership ended up extending the warranty an additional year on top for me to keep it. $4800 for 4 years. I am still within my right to cancel it and am still thinking about it.

Also to add it includes jaguar road side assistance and all other perks that come with original manufacturer warranty.

The dealership added on 1 more years ($4800 now for 4 years of coverage on top of remaining manufacturers warranty). Ive gone over the terms and conditions and it covers ~95% of what manufacturer does, however with a deductible. It is underwritten by LGM financial. It's a transferable warranty and gives me peace of mind. I think I'm going to accept it.

That doesn't sound nearly as bad. It would be a more difficult decision under those circumstances.

If it was me I would keep that.. 4yrs for only $1200 a year. the first big item that fails or needs to be repaired, the warranty will pay itself, The 30T has the turbo that might need replacing or have issues. also on the portfolio there are a lot of nice options standard, so any of them break your covered, With Jaguar shop rates at $175 a hour that adds up quick, a $50 head gasket would cost you $7000 in labor.

IMO you should have banked that $5000 to use if needed until 2027 (if you still have the car).

Again IMO, extended warranties out of pocket is just throwing money away.
