Default 2014 Jaguar FType V8S, suddenly rough idle and slow

Hey all,

I have a 2014 Jaguar FType V8S. It's been running perfectly up to this point. Yesterday while on the road, the car suddenly started idling very rough and vibrating a lot (feels like the engine is off balance?). Exhaust note also became more tinny than usual (no more deep growl), and acceleration is quite a bit slower than usual. I pulled over after I noticed and felt that the car was still vibrating a ton.

I turned the car off for a while and turned it back on and it's been running fine ever since. No warning lights, engine temperature was in the healthy range, I had plenty of fuel.

My wildass guess is that something was maybe up with cylinder deactivation feature? Feels like I lost a cylinder for a while which threw the engine out of balance? I'm not much of a mechanic so this could be a wild *** guess.

First thing to do would be to scan for any stored codes. It could be something simple like a weak battery or something more complicated like an injector issue.

There is no "cylinder deactivation feature" on any F-Type let alone one of the very early ones like a 2014 V8S.

Oh I guess I misread. I thought there was a cylinder deactivation feature on the V8s that will turn off certain cylinders when cruising at low RPM.

Thanks for the responses I'll try to check the codes

Don't these have a history injector problems at a certain mileage? I know my dealer has done full injector changes on several on warranty.

So after this happened I just turned off the car for a while and let it sit. After I turned it back on I haven't had a single issue with it since then (been about a year).

I asked about it when I took my car in for service, they took a brief look but didn't find anything glaringly wrong. I didn't wanna pay for a full check up but they said it's most likely the injector had an issue and a cylinder got deactivated. It can happen on very rare occasions but if it happens again def bring it in.

Seems like it was just a onetime glitch for me. Hopefully yours will get resolved easily too :/

Run a good injector cleaner through the system.
