Default 2016 F-Type R Manual Transmission Exhaust Sound

Jaguar posted the sound of the exhaust on the 2016 F-Type R Coupe with manual transmission today (although the picture appears to be an S convertible) the caption states R coupe.

Thanks LM. It's good to hear the popping and crackling on deceleration are still there. I was wondering whether the ECU command to inject more fuel on decel had to work in conjunction w/ an automatic.

And yes, it's a V6S. The only plans for a manual thus far are for the V6 cars.

My R53 supercharged Mini used to inject fuel whenever the car was on overrun - allegedly to cool the exhaust valves - causing pops and crackles not just on rev-matched downshifts, but also pretty much any lifting of the throttle.

I'm sure the caption is wrong. Jaguar isn't making any V8 manual variations for 2016.

I honestly have to say I don't like the sound of a 90 degree V6 Jaguar any more than I like the sound of those new Formula 1 turbocharged V6. However, now that they are making it with a manual, I may have to overlook it. With a V8 manual it would be sublime, but then I'd never be able to afford it!

I don't know how it's possible not to like the sound of the JLR supercharged 3.0 V6 making it's music through the F-Type exhaust system. You might prefer something else, but it is one of the more pleasing exhaust notes I've ever heard, and I have owned dozens of V8s, including many very high performance ones.

Have you actually driven the F-Type V6, which sounds significantly different than that engine in other Jaguars?

Yes, on my R53, the decel popping is an effort to deal with the continued boost when letting up on the throttlle. My wife's '09 MINI (R56) is turbo-charged so no need for additional fueling. However, in sport mode her car will emulate the popping for the enthusiasts.

A lot of people.. mechanics, sales, etc say that the 6 is a wild amount of car. I think Top Gear said 6 was more than enough... and if you are talking $65K base vs $90K approx, it's so easy for me on multiple levels. I have driven a truck for 20 years and am anxious to get one....

any idea on release? Spring or October? I've heard a lot of different things... ?

Hi First post, and I love the soundcloud post... stellar.

Welcome Uncle,

There is no question that the V6 F-Type is a lot of car for the money. My last four primary cars were a C6 Z06, the previous generation M3 V8, Mustang Boss 302, and an Audi RS4 V8 (all between (400-500HP). With that comparison set, I am more than happy with the base F-Type. It has plenty of power, the engine makes the best music of any of that group, and relatively speaking is a hell of a bargain.

Based on insider info posted by mparsons, RWD starts production this month, AWD in February and 6sp in April.

Yes, Stohlen is correct. There is no manual F Type R. The caption is wrong, it is an S.
