Default 2017 Jaguar Lobster Run???

Premature and late as it is. I asked my three amigos on this Forum if they would be interested - still a big IF - if I put something together for late Sept, early Oct for another "Lobster Run" and ALL 3 said they're in. Not the response I was expecting.

The inspiration of this idea came from those boys on the West Coast and it's the "normal attrition" rate - attributable to The Unhingd One - which worries me .

So before I put more thought to this - and I already have plenty of ideas swimming in my head - I ask you:

Is there anyone else interested here? (I do not ask or even want solid commitments from anyone; merely taking a quick straw poll who might be interested).

All I can say at this early/late date is I'm considering late Sept/early Oct. Oh, and amazing food is a given. Including:

Reds Eats

Let's see where, if anywhere, this takes us.

I would be more than happy to join The Lobster Run if you guys allow other Jaguars other than F-Types.

In the meantime, maybe you guys want to join us 4 door owners for this upcoming Sunday Drive in Greater Boston / Central MA area?

I would happily join you if I didn't already have plans for Sunday. If you drive up I-495 to Rt2, you'll pass a few hundred yards from my house!

We have a few J-A-N-E members in non-F-types from the Boston area last year.

I am interested. Obviously depends upon the date, but late September looks pretty good.

Default Blame Unhingd

Just kidding...blame me. This not being my first "rodeo" - not just last year's (I'd like to think successful) 2016 Jaguar Lobster Run but two major multi-day events I hosted and organized when I lived in NYC and when I owned an Acura NSX; we had upwards of 30 NSX's running through not just NYC streets but all 5 boroughs) - I wanted to state a few thoughts [re] the possibility of an event coming together (and to keep my stress to a minimum, and from lessons learned):

- When I first posted the 2016 event, within the first week of my posting I had 10-12 F-Types stating their interest if not attendance. Within the next month, I had closer to 20 (people closer to 40). As time passed and the event neared, that number actually got whittled down to 10 (I think we ended up with 8 or 9). Now I perfectly understand that life happens but from a logistical standpoint and considering I made arrangements (read = reservations) for one thing or another, a rapidly declining number, close to the actual date, became a hassle. Making the arrangements is a snap...altering the number of cars or people near the last minute is not. Not sure how to avoid life getting in the way but I did want to make mention of it.

- I am neither a snob nor an elitist. I am an F-Type owner; which in and of itself is utterly meaningless...other than the fact that we're on an F-Type Forum. I loath the idea of excluding anything but F-Types (and I feel like an a-hole even stating this) but we had a couple of non-Types last year - and Zach, you get a total pass - and it was a bit awkward keeping the F-Types together, keeping the non-F-Types in the back (and, no, you're not second class citizens), making our various police escorts aware of non-F's with us, posing for photographs, etc. So I am inclined to say this should be an F-Type only event. I apologize if this comes off "wrong". (If I was reading this and wasn't driving an F-Type, I'd probably say FU Jay). Blame Unhingd.

- If there is any focal point to the event, it would basically consist, in the following order: Driving. Food. Culture. Camaraderie. Smoking Cigars (THAT is definitely something to blame Unhingd as I dispice cigars, or smoking of any kind).

- Last but not least, I am attempting to include something special (and it would be thanks to my fabulous dealer, Scarborough Jaguar/Land Rover) with details to follow, assuming we can make it happen.

All of which is contingent on my being able to put this together at, what amounts to, this late date. I am inclined to set dates around Oct 6,7,8.

To be continued...

Jay having gotten to know you since we met last year at the first Run I know how much of your heart and soul you put into the enjoyment of those that participate. I also can "hear" the pain in your words to even the thought that someone might feel excluded. This forum has been a wonderful gift for Ftype owners, as I'm sure the other Jaguar model forums have been for them as well. Sometimes its ok to narrow down the field a bit as the models and lines of the brand continue to expand. That expansion is great for all but it certainly can get a bit unwieldy when planning events.

I for one look forward to attending again! Im excited in fact. If its just types, ok. If its two door Jags, that is fine and fitting with the sports car theme. Beyond that I own two four door cars and I personally don't think its being exclusive, its just a chance to celebrate a wonderfully unique model that deserves to be gathered whenever possible.

Thank you very much Marko. It's been a pleasure knowing you - and your much better half - and I need no accolades or even thanks. I do it simply because I want to. That and it's relatively easy for me to do.

Gotta think about and work out possible hotel options for those attending - there always is The Press Hotel (but I'm not so sure that that's necessary). I suspect that I will be able to confirm that this is all a "go" by the end of the month at the latest. That would provide us with two full months to put the finishing touches.

Thank you again for your thoughtful post. (And I was just kidding about Tamela. Oh, she is your better half but not by much).

Best regards,
Jay

Ok please enlighten me (honestly just being too lazy to search the history) where would this be held? A few details for us newbies. I'm east of Toronto and just did a 500 mile pleasure cruise yesterday for the fun of it so I'm not apposed to join.
Thanks

Last year was centered around Portland, ME - simply awesome. Jay does indeed pull out all the stops! You can find our thread from last year, complete with pictures, etc. Search for 'Lobster run'.

And Marko and Jay... get a room.

The idea of this came to me literally just today and within a few short minutes, a number of possibilities popped into my brain. Plenty of details need to be worked out but the wheels are already in motion. While the journey - the drive to and while in Maine (where I now live) - IS the essence of life (and this event should it transpire) much of my life revolves around food. So my first thoughts instantly turn to where to eat. Here are two places I would put on our agenda and, presumably, to whet your appetite:

Reds Eats (owners are dear friends)

The Purple House (ditto)

I have thoughts of what to do around eating - there is more to life than just eating [well] - including the possibility of time on a private track. BUT that is putting the cart - or in this case car - WAY before the horse (and, no, there will not be any horseback riding as part of the event).

Stay tuned and kindly continue to express your interest; and the odds that you might be attending. Again, I am not asking for a firm commitment - at least not at this early/late stage - merely an indicated interest.

1) My goal is exactly the opposite of stopping Dave. My raison d'etre is to go. FAST. (Although doing so is becoming more and more of a challenge).
2) Do I detect a tinge of jealousy? Marko and I are both married, and not to each other. (Which makes you the smart one).
3) Lastly and to all: I will do my utmost to make something happen - I can always do something - but please forgive me if I determine that I can't put the right pieces together in time for a Fall Lobster Run.

FYI, here's the 12-page thread for last year's Lobster Run. Itinerary on the first page, pictures mostly start on page 8.

That's so 2016!

Fond memories Dave and an excellent write-up. But perhaps my greatest memory is the smile on Matt Mikulich's face - who drove all the way 100 miles west of Denver, CO to attend - while reading poetry from his book during the prose reading portion of our event along with my friend, prose-writer-extraordinaire, Robert Gibbons.

Forum members should know that Matt passed away last year after a mighty battle against cancer. My greatest pleasure, to this day, was providing Matt (and his wife Donalyn) with such pleasurable memories before his passing. I do keep in touch with Donalyn who still has the car and who still drives it from time to time. Naturally, thinking of Matt.

Leaves me speechless.

A reminder that we're all one breath away from the end. Carpe diem.

Default UPDATE16

Based on my initial query [re] a 2017 Jaguar Lobster Run, it would appear that - including me - we would have 8 F-Types; and that's assuming those who have expressed interest all come. [Unhingd has prior commitments; and even the potential of a track day apparently cannot persuade him otherwise].

Here's my thinking:

If you're all coming from a long distance to attend - not you Dave - I owe it to you to show you a spectacular time. And while I am not in the least worried about that, a little over two months is also not a lot of time for me to make the sort of arrangements I would like to make (and I still have a few phone calls into one or two people merely to see what is possible), like I did for the 2016 Jaguar Lobster Run.

Scarborough Jaguar likely would have a few F-Type owners join us - at least I know that that is their desire - but who knows how many, if any, would actually join in and for what.

The point I am trying to make is I am almost always quality over quantity but if I'm to put this together for - let's say - the first week in Oct (Oct 6,7,8..with some arriving Oct 5?), I'd hope to have at least 10 F-Types. You might not need or even want a police escort but asking for a police escort for 5 cars isn't the same - and I wouldn't bother to ask for 5 - for 10 or more. The same kinda goes for some of the other stuff I have planned and that's my point.

And then there's hotel accommodations (and I have someone from the Press Hotel inquiring about that today).

In the end, nothing is insurmountable and I can always put something together for anyone coming at...well...anytime.

I guess what I am trying to ineffectively say is - without asking for a firm commitment - I'd like to get 10 F-Types at a minimum before I proceed further.

Oct. 5-8 works for me or any subset of that.
