Default 2l or 5l - advice needed please

Hi

I'm a new forum member who is thinking about buying a post 2020 F type. I’m not sure whether to buy the 2 litre or the 5 litre version so I thought I’d drop a note with a couple of questions - any replies gratefully accepted please

1. I’m not massively keen on the “pops” etc that come from the exhaust - does this only happen in a certain mode eg dynamic or in all modes?
2. Does the 2 lire exhaust “pop” a lot less than the 5 litre?
3. I know the 5 litre is around 1 second quicker 0-60 than the 2 litre - does the 2 litre feel underpowered given its size - I currently have a Boxster S which does 0-60 in the same time as the 2 litre but wondered if the 2 litre F type will feel slower given the size of the car.

Many thanks for any help.

This topic has been beaten to death here so I suggest you use the search button and read a bit.

Get the best of both worlds then, the 3L V6. With a manual transmission if possible!

The 2L is for those interested in the car's design only not big car enthusiasts which is why they're cheaper.

Welcome! No comment on the P300 vs V8 discussion because there's so much info in other threads, but coming from a Boxster S you'd probably feel a but underwhelmed by the 2L.

They all pop, but there will be less of it in these 2nd facelift cars than in earlier ones. I'd say there's more popping in dynamic mode and you mainly got the pops if you quickly release the throttle.

The popping can be removed from any F-Type through a remap. I'm not a fan of the pops either, but don't dislike them enough to bother having them mapped out.

The pops and crackles were a bit fun 12 years ago when the cars were released but now I think they're just a bit useless, annoying and unnecessarily detrimental to the O2 sensors and cats. Besides every "sporty" four banger **** box on the market pops and cracks these days so it really doesn't feel like it suits the kind of car the F-Type is.

Thank you very much Major Tom, your reply is really helpful to a newbie! Cheers

I had a 2014 Cayman S before I purchased the 2018 F type R. I drove a 3 liter before purchasing the 5 liter. I thought the 3 liter was on par with the Cayman S as far as acceleration, cornering of course is way better in the Cayman. I know one person with the 2 liter and they are very happy with it. The best thing to do is drive all of them if you can.
As far as the pops and bangs (which I am not a fan of at all) they are not noticeable in the regular driving mode under normal driving conditions.
Good Luck with your car search.

That topic is currently being discussed at length in the thread below.

.
The 5l is much quicker than one second quicker to 60. It's two seconds quicker and considering that on a slow day the 5l does 0-60 in 3.5, that's a massive difference.

I've only driven the 2l when my car was in the shop and it's like the difference between going down a bunny hill and a black diamond. It's not just 0-60, it's getting around that car on the country road or getting back on the gas after a semi cuts you off on a steep grade.

Perhaps hewas referring to the P450, which is ~4.5s 0-60. The R is 3.5s 0-60.

IMHO
My wife loves the car because it's pretty, I enjoy the performance.
If we had anything less than the top engine, I would never drive it.
The pops are a bit juvenile. However, the sound does dominate the kids attempted mimic.
The pops rarely occur when my wife drives. I can cause it but rarely seek to.
I'm more annoyed by the loud exhaust at start up. I feel I'm being a rude neighbor. I may someday soften that by a console control. Someday when the weight of feeling rude becomes greater than that effort.

I asked my wife which car color she hates. She said corvette yellow. Now I'm shopping for a Yellow C8. To me, that's an ugly car and yellow is a horrible color, but I don't care. 1000 ugly HP is a happy ride.

...
Try parking your F-Type so the exhaust pipes face away from your house and don't feather the throttle on start up.. my neighbour thought i had a modified exhaust fitted but I told him it is the original factory fitted exhaust, however, i don't commute to work any longer.
