anti-theft insurance discounts?
Hello, are you aware of various anti-theft insurance discounts for the f type coupe? I think some insurance companies may offer a discount if the vehicle is equipped with lojack. Lojack has been around since 1978 so I'm wondering if some lojack capabilities have been assimilated into the jag by default or if there are cheaper and more practical alternatives.
What type of anti-theft capabilities does the f type come with and what type of anti-theft capabilities can the f type be equipped with in order to take advantage of insurance discounts?

anti-theft options seem like a great way to help reduce insurance premiums. do forum members here simply have deep pockets and don't really care that much about saving a few hundred dollars per year?
I think most decent insurance carriers already incorporate the theft insurance when you give them the make and model of the car. at least, mine (allstate) did.
however, if you eat burgers in the car you may need to buy extra hamburgler insurance ;-)

@schraderade - if your f type was stolen then is there a particular phone # you would call to activate tracking and pinpoint the location of your stolen vehicle?
Nope.... Not that I know of.
The insurance carriers only give small discounts for those tracking systems though.

Something like Lojack only reduces my USAA insurance by a measly $9.50 a month. Considering the cost of Lojack is at least $700 according to their website (not sure if there is an install cost), it would take 6 years just to break even.
Honestly, if my car is stolen, I don't want it back. It will be forever tainted. Just give me my insurance check and I'll replace it.

The following url says:
"The average insurance discount ranges between 10 and 25% of a policyholder’s annual comprehensive premium"

Has anyone here received a discount of $250/yr or more for lojack or similar system?

The key word is comprehensive premium, not your entire premium. On my policy, the comprehensive portion of my premium is only $120/yr/car, so 25% of that is only $30.
My calc above shows 5% savings and that is in CA which your posted blog site says "up to 32%". Hah, I would call that some marketing BS. Even the insurance companies they list say they give 10%. The blog doesn't mention which insurance gives that magical 25% for cars.
The question is, will the savings be more than the cost of the device/service? If it is, then go for it. I have a $250 deductible that will cover theft.

If you don't drive your Jag that much check out metromile. They're a new insurance company that does per-mile rates. So you pay something like $50 a month and then 0.10 for every mile you drive. They're actually not an insurance company, some real insurance company underwrites the policy. I love the idea.
New ignition systems are hard to crack. I'm in the electronics industry and work with tracking systems. I also used to do alarms and remote starts in my early 20's. Cars get broken into regularly, but our factory alarm systems are adequate in alerting us in those cases. I can't recall the last story I heard of a modern Jaguar being driven off stolen without the keys. Tracking systems don't help if the thief is going part the car out. If you can't find the car in 24 hours in most cases you'll never find it intact again.
The best case in this scenario is good insurance that will replace your car if that rare case does happen.

When the X-Type first came out in 2002, we leased one. We did get Lojack for ~$600 since we had no idea of what a potential theft rate might be. We had (still have) Mercury Ins. and they gave us a $200 reduction each year which paid for itself for the entire 3 year lease. Since then, Mercury doesn't lower the premiums as much any more since (I think) that auto security systems have improved over the years.
I had a black '86 Olds 442 at that time and also had Lojack installed since those cars were high on the list for stolen cars. Never regretted doing it.

No, see the other thread just started.
Mine is LoJacked...
...my Escalade is LoJacked as well. It WAS stolen. LoJack couldn't find my car for three hours. Guys ended up getting away, stole everything in my car. I would say that it sucks just because of that incident.

In the UK we have Tracker systems (Jaguar Trackstar).
In getting a quote from my existing Insurer I found that without the fitment of the above the car was uninsurable for theft.
