Anyone mounted a tollroad / metroexpress / fastrak transponder anywhere?
I was just wondering if anyone found a place where their toll transponder would work, without being visible? I almost thought of taking it apart to mount it somewhere along the rear view mirror, but figure I better ask if anyone has found an elegant solution that prevents the awkward elbow reaching from different compartments or side storage areas??
I swear, I am a neophyte, but as soon as I can implant my car and house keys, and cell phone, I'm game.... =)

I keep mine in the glovebox. The plate reader makes sure I get charged even if the transponder doesn't get picked up. I used to put it the map case on my motorcycle tank bag in plain sight and it wouldn't get picked up, but they never missed charging me. I completely stopped worrying about it.

I painted mine black and mounted it on the passenger side of the upper windshield right next to the mirror housing, which is also flush up against the windshield. From the outside, it is hard to see but looks like a part of the mirror mount. From the driver's seat there is no direct line of site to see it, and from the passenger side it looks like an extension of the mirror housing.

Plasti-dipped mine black. Placed it right next to the rear view mirror. There's already a box looking thing on one side of the mirror, so placing the transponder on the other (and plasti-dipped black), just makes it look like part of the mirror. Can't tell its there, and it doesn't draw any attention to itself.

I have an EZ-Pass (east coast thing). I did this on all my cars: ask them for the "bumper version", it is a black transponder that mounts on the front of your car. It is pretty slim and can be mounted on the "underside" of the front. It reads perfectly every time, does not have to be visible. You can see on the picture where I put it on the Jag, it is completely invisible unless you crawl under and look for it.

Yes, I use their website (https://www.ezpass.csc.paturnpike.com) and request an additional transponder, or perhaps a replacement. You can write a note with your request, asking for Bumper Style instead of the standard Interior Style. I can't remember if there is a small fee but I don't think so. You don't return your original transponder until after you start using the replacement.

Does it look something like the image in the pdf here? Also, would happen to know if this is widely available? I'm asking because I'm in CA.

Yeah, it was/is probably designed to be mounted on a front license plate, but I have hidden them different places in nooks and crannies in front or under front of cars. I drive from PA to NC regularly, and D.C. and NYC, including express lanes - it always reads. In fact I had an occasional non-read years ago with Interior bricks, but never with the hidden external ones. Disclaimer: I suppose non-reads could happen to you, and I am sure they would say you should mount on your license plate or your forehead or whatever, but hiding it works great.
