Hi guys,
Is there a consensus for the best synthetic motor oil. I checked YouTube and there is no definitive answer on which of the many brand names are superior or best. You guys are very knowledgeable , so I thought I'd post my question here to see what you have to say about the best engine oil.

Best is probably a really bad word to include in an oil thread.

Highly recommended, popular, well regarded might be better terms.

As for best ... under what criteria?

Withstanding high heat / temperatures, cold startup and viscosity breakdown.
Also, bring a true synthetic instead of dino oil mix formulation.

In that case, you may like Castrol 0W40 European which has "Made in Belgium"
on the back label.

You should consider HTHS as that number is very much related to bearing
and cylinder bore wear. You want 3.5 or greater. The above oil meets
ACEA A3/B4 which means it has HTHS >= 3.5 amongst other characteristics.

All ACEA A3/B4 must "remain in grade" over the oil change interval.

Regarding the Castrol 0W40 European, I don't think it's available here in the states. Yes ... No ?

The Castrol that Jaguar recommends (I think its called Professional or European) is from pure synthetic stock or so I'm told.. Its my understanding that Amsoil is as well.

There are some oil threads on this forum that got into this topic and other brands were mentioned.

If you open the discussion to oil weight you should have a never ending supply of information and opinions to read.

There is really no need to look any farther than the Castrol Edge Professional that is recommended by Jag.

Especially when Jag can deny a motor claim if "wrong" oil is found in a failed engine. I was warned by service dept.

Just like asking 'what's the best beer' there is no consensus. Some people will fight to the death arguing their opinion no matter how wrong they might be.

Use the oil specified by Jag and/or required by your warranty. Abandon any thinking that there might be something better than will make more than half a gnat's f*rt improvement.

Hey Mikey, Just remembering the good ol' days when you used to engage in said debates. I think it was Jagular that finally pushed you over the edge. I could just hear the frustration as I read your responses.
