Question Which is a better deal or car?

Hi all,

New member here who is looking at buying an F Type. I have 2 cars I am looking at and not sure which is a better buy. Neither is certified. Both have the same major options. I am looking to drive the car 2 - 3 years with about 13.5k miles a year. 2016 is $2k more than 2015

2015 F Type S 35K miles Green w/ Tan int. Warranty expires 8/26/2020 with 25K miles left on warranty
2016 F Type S 8600 miles Red w/ black, red stitching, red seat belts. Warranty expires 5/13/2019 with 41K miles left on warranty

Is there a major difference between the hydraulic and electronic steering between the years?

Thank you!

For 2k more the 2016 is a no brainer, all else being equal. When you are done you will have a car with 40k miles versus 60k. Most of these cars aren’t driven a lot and it is easy to find low mileage examples for a reasonable price. Selling a 60k mile example for a decent price will be tough.

I'll echo this, I'm already a bit nervous about trying to unload mine in the future given the miles I put on it...

I'd go for the 2016, in the grand scheme of a car purchase, $2k isn't a huge difference

thanks, 2k is not a big difference. I guess my major concern is the warranty. Neither car is close to look at. I have one other Certified 2014 convertible S I am looking at as well, but don't have all the info yet.

Never buy a car without seeing it, test driving it, and going over records. This must include doing VIN searches on liens, ownership history, and accidents.

I'd go with the 2016. Disregard the warranty for a second, you have some major differences between color specs. I'd rather have a black interior than tan (my .02). It seems thats the way you're leaning by mentioning the seat belt color

Lower miles, newer year. it's a no brainer. Only thing that would steer me away is if the 2016 had 3-4 owners with such small mileage.

Argee on seeing car etc. I have family that can put eyes on the car. Colors are a wash for me. I like both. The 2016 is actually a single owner lease.

Haven't seen any negative reports of electric vs. hydraulic steering assist. Seems like they did a good job.

Sight I just realized i reversed the years. I agree if it were the other way around its a no brainer.

It should be

2016 F Type S 35K miles Green w/ Tan int. Warranty expires 8/26/2020 with 25K miles left on warranty
2015 F Type S 8600 miles Red w/ black, red stitching, red seat belts. Warranty expires 5/13/2019 with 41K miles left on warranty

Check the infotainment system. There are 3 setups - one which is black and white and I thought really horrible to use. That was used in the '15 model year. Then there is one that looks like 4 coloured tiles but it is just the black and white one pretending to be something else. That was used in the first of the 16 model years I think. Then there is the one with coloured tiles that is the new system, and that is a massive, massive improvement.

I think the way to tell whether you have the newer one is the dash display. In the bit between the speedo and tacho, the older system looks like this https://goo.gl/images/oKQvmH. In the new ones, it looks like this https://goo.gl/images/iB21k3

Given the mileage difference, I would go with the 2015, even with 15 months less warranty. As far as the steering, going from hydraulic to electric assist almost always results in less feel and feedback. That being said, I don't remember any reviews lamenting the electric steering on the 2016 and later F-Type, so it must be close in feel to the hydraulic system.

I have electric steering on mine, it is awesome and there is no loss in the feel at all. I came out of the XKR (hydraulic) and into the F Type (electric) and the steering has better feel IMO, though steering in jags is generally very light except when pushing the AWD R.

correct. I believe only the 14 V8S was the only year for that designation and they were verts only then.

2015s have a 4y/50k warranty
2016s have a 5y/60k warranty

The carfax is important, most dealers won't buy a car with any blemishes on the carfax even if the carfax is incorrect. Autocheck score is very important too, even though meaningless.
