Arrow Can We All Agree The F-Type Set The Trend For Pop, Bang Crackle Exhausts & Designs

F Type is an iconic sports car that set the trend for the entire car world to try copy our iconic pop, bang, crackle exhaust in which almost every other brand and aftermarket companies are developing tunes to get the same feature as our Jags. It amazes me how many BMWS, Benzes, Ferrari, Porsches, Lambos etc that drive by in my area with loud exhaust that pop bang and crackle. Little did they know the F-Type is the trendsetter car. Then you have Ferrari, Benz AMG GT trying to make thier cars like the same design like our F-Types. The F-Type is iconic just like the E-Type. Thats why I think in time our F-Types will be as classic as the E-Type.

Ah yes, it is very true that Jaguar set the trend of destroying catalytic converters everywhere.

Jaguar was not the first to do this.

I once followed a 599GTO onto the expressway - you think the V8 F-types are loud. My ears are still bleeding, and that was over a decade ago. And it sounded more like a rifle shot when he shifted than any car I’ve heard.

Hello 1987 Ferrari F40

(And it was real overrun, not fake dumping fuel into the exhaust on purpose)

I’m personally not much of a fan of the extreme burble tune and popping and banging…A little here and there is fine, but I hate it when it is over the top. Add in the fact that it just basically senselessly destroys equipment, now it’s starting to have a bit of a pointless juvenile feel to it. One man’s opinion.

I always got a kick out of Throttle House’s theory around why the F-type pops and bangs went away, starts at about 4:50 —>

I'm not a fan of the pops and cracks either. It might have been a bit cool 10 years ago but since then it's been done to death, now every 4 banger shitbox does it and as said over time it just kills the O2 sensors and cats. Disabling the pops is the only reason to why I have considered getting my F-Type remapped.

Default Not a fan either

When I first did the test drive on my 2017, it had all that noise. I shut it off so I could hear the IMPORTANT parts... transmission and engine, and if there were any creaks or squeaks. A week later when I picked it up, the noise was gone and I was not disappointed.
My JLR tech corroborated the possible damage, indicating that it was unburned gas and would destroy the cats.

I'd rather save my money for possible necessary repairs, instead of ones that could have been avoided.

Conversely, if you are a pops and bangs lover, get quality aftermarket high flow cats. They will live better with the overrun and make even louder bangs

Have you remapped yours though? If so, which tune did your go for?

I might feel the same in 10 years time. I'm in my early 40s so still at the peak of my mid life crisis and enjoying all (to me) beautiful sounds the engine and exhaust provide. I just wish the pops and bangs were a bit more predictable. Some days, I go for a short drive to the supermarket and it's like 4th of July all the way there 😁 but it can go a lot quieter on the way back. I guess it adds to the idea that the car really has a soul and sometimes, it just like to get a bit wild!

No, Lotus did it over 10 years earlier with the Elise, Ford did it back in the 80's with the Fox body Mustang 5.0. Also. no one remembers this, Fiat 1/9's did this in the mid to late 70's. I am laughing out loud, as my niece said 'I am a believer' was originally done by Smash Mouth

My car does the same, it just does it a bit more because the engine and exhaust are still a bit cold on the drive out, and is warmed up a bit more on the drive back I do have to watch out for baby carriages and older folks!

Nope, haven't remapped it yet and only thought about it every now and then over the years. I have a local tuning company that remapped a couple of cars for me in the past and I would go with them again. With my previous two Jags it was more of a no brainer because there were noticeable power gains to be unlocked. The 380 hp tune my engine has already is so close to it's natural full power of around 400 horses so the 415ish horses at the top end that a remap alone would bring probably wouldn't make much of a difference. I also think it's currently spot on power wise and like the idea of keeping things stock engine wise which is why I haven't had it remapped yet.

Fully agree about the awesome sounds from the engine and exhaust (except those unnecessary pops ) anyhow. The incredible exhaust note is so much of the car's soul and never gets old.
