Default CarPlay for the Meridian 770 W 2017 premium F type

I’m brand new to the F type world. I’ve updated several MB car systems, and that was a pain. I have seen many posts about upgrading a 2017 F type premium with CarPlay modules for Bosch or Harmon, but I can’t find one for the Meridian 770 W 12 speaker system. Would anybody have any input regarding this upgrade?

Thanks!

Welcome. The Meridian “system” will utilize either Bosch or Harmon on the backend. So while the system will be Meridian, they will utilize components to help support the audio experience. Hope that helps!

ETA: the center Home Screen will inform if Bosch or Harmon unit.

Thank you so much for the info!! After reading a lot of threads, I was getting that feeling, but I never could confirm it.. I just needed to hear someone actually say it. Again, I appreciate it!!

Only way I’ve found to satisfactorily get CarPlay is to get a car with the Tech Package. I traded my bright white 85,000 mile ‘17 F Pace S with black and brown interior and no CarPlay for a pearl white 106,000 mile ‘17 F Pace S with all black interior and the tech package. Both have HUD, adaptive and luxury lighting.

Not sure the packages have a direct correlation between F-Pace and F-Type?

I would say “satisfactory” is likely a personal preference but I’ve been very happy with the performance of the CarPlay box I installed from CarLink Life in my 2017 BDE. No external mic, uses factory bits, retains steering wheel controls, reverse camera, etc. and was a simple install in both coupes. One 2016 coupe with the base system and one 2017 with the upgraded 770w.

They don't.

I went with the UAD kit in my '17. It was aabout a 2 hour installation (would have been 1 hour if I knew what I was doing). It hijacks the facoty Nav system and the only complaint I have had is that it doesn't aumatically start in Android Auto, I hae to click Nav each time I start the car.

Having said that, it is much more stable than the factory system in my wife's '21 Range Rover.

I have the Meridian 770W and did the UAD kit also. Mine remembers to stay in Carplay mode and boots back into it every time.

The only issue I have with it is that the volume of the audio is low compared to XM radio, so I have to adjust main system volume when I switch sources. But it's still a great upgrade.

Why go through all this expense and trouble to get car play?

I'll have to pour though my owner's manual. I don't remember seeing a way for the car to default to NAV on startup.

  1. Text messages
  2. Far superior NAV system
  3. Spotify/Pandora/Amazon audio
  4. EQ
Given time, I could come up with more benefits. It's well worth it to me.

5. I can also use the Home Assistant app to arm/disarm my alarm and open my gate from the touchscreen. =
6. Using inRoute or Roadtripper to follow a turn-by-turn route sent by someone planning a group drive
7. Grabbing a parking space on Spot Hero as I approach downtown
8. Flagging a hidden speed patrol on Waze or Apple Maps to warn others

11. Tiled apps, so you can see the nav screen and the Spotify screeen at the same time. Bonus that if a text comes in, it will split the second tile into two.

12. Proper live traffic data through Waze or Google Maps. So much better than the live traffic you can get in the car navigation if you waste your money on a HERE map subscription.
13. Voice control. Not super important to me but I always found it weird that you can't get voice control in an F-Type while other Jags have had it since 20 years or so.

I run the UAD solution and love it. It's been rock solid and since mine is a facelift MY18 car with the latest infotainment system it works even better than in pre-facelift cars. All standard functions including the standard navigation are still there but the system always starts in CarPlay mode as soon as I unlock the car and CarPlay boots so much quicker than the standard system does. Long pressing the home button switches between UAD/CarPlay and the standard system.

I've been looking all over for how to do this. Does the carplay hijack the Nav system in your car? If so, how do you get it to start in Nav?

Do the music track advance / track back buttons on the steering wheel work with the UAD device when on Spotify on CarPlay. (Not android auto)?

Still trying to decide which of the many CarPlay options to put in my Bosch 2017 SVR
