Default Charger for Tuning

Hi all,

I have a 2017 Base Model V6 F Type. I just purchased the VAP Stage 1 tuning kit for it, and they recommend using a battery charger while completing the process. Would anyone have any suggestions for chargers, preferably ones that are portable and do not need constant AC power but can be charged prior to use?

That's not really a charger, but a booster battery. An actual charger would use AC power.

I have a small booster that I got from Amazon a few years ago. It'll start a car, but I'm not sure how long it would stay in the "jump" mode if being used to give extra capacity with the engine not running.

I have retrieved the file from my car and also flashed the new one without a charger connected on a couple of occasions, but there is risk that if the voltage drops too low the ECU could end up bricked.

I've read that it takes 20 minutes of driving to put back what you take out of it on startup, so I hope the battery was fully charged before you do that. But I guess it depends on how risk-averse you are.

It also assumes you have a healthy battery. I hooked a 15-amp battery charger to my battery when I flashed my tune.

Hi All,

Thank you all for your suggestions! After consideration, I decided to buy a Centech charger from Harbor Freight and a buddy of mine ran an extension cord for us to plug it into while I read the ECU. Had no issues with the process, and am currently waiting on VAP to return the tune file to me.
