Default Cleaning and restoring the ragtop

Gents - for those of you with convertibles, how do you go about restoring the black and moving some of the gray fold lines out of the convertible top on our cars? Is there a treatment that’s used and recommended?

Thanks much

There’s a thread with a comprehensive discussion on the matter. The search feature should find it.

For me, minimal wash / soap wear. I use 303, but probably only about once a year.

Here's the last thread I remember:

I use these RAGGTOPP products and they work well for me: fabric cleaner, protectant and brush. I apply the protectant once a year or when water stops beading off the top. I use the brush/cleaner for routine washes.

I used this once per year after winter. Kept the top looking like new.

I just did this on my new-to-me ‘16 vert, black top. Started by lint rolling the fuzzies and dandelions off the top - I plan on keeping a lint roller in the trunk just for this purpose lol. Then used the chemical guys products - applied convertible cleaner, agitated with the horse hair brush and wipes off with microfiber, then applied two coats of the protectant and cures overnight. Looks brand new, nice deep dark consistent black. I plan to do this twice a year, depending on how long the protectant will bead water. You can by the 2 sprays with and brush and microfiber for a discount off amazon here in the states.

How do you guys apply these products? Do you tape of the car and cover the windshield and back window? I’m concerned about overspray and the windows and paint.

I buy the spray bottle of 303 Protectant, but I use a paint brush to apply it after pouring it into a plastic cup. I lower the roof slightly, so it's still tight but there's a bit of a gap between the roof and the top of the windshield. Then I paint it on. If you do it in the sun on a warm day, it soaks in quite quickly. Be careful not to drip!

With the chem guys products, jump on YouTube and search for “chemical guys convertible” and watch the how-to videos. You can wipe the overspray up before it dries, it’s no issue to get on paint or glass. But if your super **** about it you can tape off some of the paint, though it’s not needed with this product.
