Configuration question
Hi all!
I'm looking to lease a F-type now that my BMW lease is ending. I've got a few questions for you guys.
1. My BMW lease ends in Feb, is it worth chasing after the Jaguar year end lease specials now and get a Ftype earlier than my BMW lease ends or do these specials not really matter especially if I'm looking for a slightly custom config?
2. Can I configure the car with the flat bottom steering wheels and still get the backup camera? for both MY2015 and MY2016 it looks like the backup camera is only available on the Vision pack which gets removed the minute I add the flat bottom steering wheel (which adds the Black Pack I think)
3. I'm thinking of getting the Base model, is the MY2016 that much different from the MY2015? In previous cars I've owned each year they improve the car a bit especially with small nagging issues on a previous model year. I couldnt find any significant changes from MY2015 to MY2016 especially for the base model. What do you guys suggest chase after the 2015 deals or go with 2016?
Thanks in advance and can't wait to finally get this car I've been lusting over for a few years. In the end it came down to a M4 convertible or F-Type and I just think the F-Type looks so much sexier!

From what I can tell they are only for the base model with no options
Did you special order the car and if you did, how long did it take to get delivered?
If you custom order it takes about 3 months, plus or minus, from what I've seen here. For leasing/financing, I don't think you can lock in any rates/deals for that long. So if the APR was 1.9% you can't lock in that rate for 4 months, if your car takes 4 months to get delivered. APR might be 2.9% by then. AFAIK, you work out the final terms (whether it's leasing or financing) when you actually get the car, or very close to it. So short answer, if you want a custom order 2015 or 2016, you have to roll the dice that the deals will still be available when you get the car delivered. Otherwise need to get the car off the lot to get the current deals. That said, double check w/ your Jag dealer and their financing department. Things may vary.

I wonder if they'll have any specials for the MY2015's in Feb/March though since the MY 2016's are expected in April. Did they do something similar for the MY2014's when the MY2015's came out?

My guess is dealers might give you bigger discounts in Feb/March as the 2016 roll in and they still have 2015 on the lot. But not on custom orders, which would be a 2016 anyways. The financing side, no idea...that's beyond the dealer level and just how Jaguar/Chase forecast things...
FWIW, My JLR dealer, which does a large volume (3/4 Land Rovers), didn't receive any '15s until late July/early August. When I bought my '14, the best deals were then through the fall, but I purchased with cash. They weren't dealing much on purchase discounts in the early spring timeframe, but perhaps lease deals were different.
The other thing to consider is that if you look at past U.S. F-Type sales numbers since it was introduced, the slow months are now through February, which isn't surprising. They start picking up substantially in March and go strong through September. Those numbers were recently posted here and are probably somewhere on the first or second page of this forum.
I agree that you'll be able to negotiate a far better deal if you buy something in stock. With custom orders, you'll be paying close to sticker minus perhaps the JCNA member discount, which I think dealers are compensated for.
If you can find something you like on the lot now, you might want to snap it up and take the pretty good lease deal available now. Otherwise, you'll be rolling the dice that a similar promo will be around.

I was in your shoes a few months ago and switched to an F-Type S from a 535i. I had the desire to get back into another convertible and have never looked back. The M4 convertible was on my list of replacement cars, but I found the F-Type to be much more exciting and I love it. If you haven’t driven an F-Type yet, get in one and you will be hooked.
This is how I acquired my car: I searched every Jaguar dealer in Northern California and found a few cars in inventory that had all the options I wanted. I was willing to travel to Southern CA if necessary. I emailed the dealers looking for the best deal. With 5 months left on my BMW lease, I traded it on a new 2014 F-Type S in September. The dealer paid off the lease in full, I got to keep my 7 multiple security deposits and I was able to get the F-Type well below invoice with $0 down after a lot of negotiating.
The differences between 2014, 2015 and 2016 F-Types are nominal unless you want a manual Trans or AWD. Reading the frustrations of members on this forum who special ordered their cars, it seems the process is a lot longer than BMW and shipping information is not very accurate or is non-existent at times. This option will likely leave you without a car in February unless you are able to secure a dealer production slot that will allow the car to be shipped shortly after the order is placed. Ocean shipping time will be 4 – 5 weeks to Seattle alone.
I can’t answer your question about the flat bottomed steering wheel other than I have it and love it.
Good luck with your decision and hope to see you with a new F-Type!

Thanks, this is great info! The inventory on the Ftypes in WA state are pretty slim and not that great. I'd be willing to pick one up in California and drive back though with it! Let me look at the inventory down there. Thanks for the heads up on the ordering process!
