I have a 16 R and looked at the Project 8 for a while. Would like the exclusivity and can go to Costco now. Will miss the vert here in San Diego.
Any thoughts?
I'm not sure its an upgrade. Yes it has more power stock vs stock, and the run has very low production numbers. But the platform is entirely different and XE based. I'm not sure if it would be that much more fun to drive. Heavily track focused, my opinion you're paying considerably for things that don't come into play on normal roads.
For >180k options are so broad already. A one year old Lamborghini Huracan LP580 Spyder (which is a vert)... Or a BMW Z8 with change left over.
I like the idea of the Project 8, but driving around town in a car with a "racing rear wing" screams boy-racer. Most people won't know how much the car costs nor what it's about and will only see the large rear wing. If you were getting it for a track toy, I'd say go for it. However, most people won't know what's so special about it and will only see the rear wing on a street car.
We had the first XE and now have the 2020 version, they are great cars. I love the Project 8 (I must have watched the hill climb video 10 times for the sound) but ignoring the performance aspects for a moment, aside from the wing and the massive rear wheels (which you cant put on the standard XE because of the rear guards) the 2020 XE looks as good or better, it still has the average tail lights from the first gen, and the interior is not special particularly when compared to the new one. If I bought a Project 8 and saw a 2020 XE, I'd be burning over what I didnt get.
But that is only me and how I know I would react. Having watched a number of reviews they are said to be awesome as a daily. You can get them without the wing.
As I love Jags I think the price of project 8 is just mental. I would really think of it as a collector's car or something. But if money no object, then why not. Or there is a reason - the wing. And if you put it down, then I hope the car won't take off like a plane

I've seen a few (dealer spots as well as two owners local to me) and they all have the rear wing. Anything can be removed afterwards but I've yet to see one sold without it.
Not very subtle for a daily... That particular car is not a daily...
The article was posted in June and Jaguar has nothing about such a version (so that doesn't mean it will actual ever exist). However, there is a special limited "Touring" version:
"TOURING SPOILER
Available on 15 limited-edition Project 8 builds, a fixed touring spoiler delivers a more understated profile and enhanced rear visibility, while maintaining the vehicle’s aerodynamic performance and explosive acceleration. Although maximum down-force potential is reduced, high-speed stability remains supremely assured."
I was looking for one a few months back and found two at a dealer in NC, one in dayglo orange and the other in fluorescent blue, both my least favorite Jag colors. Not subtle.
