Hello....

Can someone shed some light on the CPO warranty? I am looking at an F-type 2020 with 6k miles...The dealer said has upto 7 yrs /100k miles but they said their car had only 6 yrs / 100k due to the cost of the 7th yr is alot more??? Any explanation on this topic?

The 7th year typically cost the man on the street and extra $1200 ish depending on the age and miles on the car when you sign up for it.

With the money you are likely spending on a 2020, you might be able to get this added as part of the negotiations, but since the pandemic, the new and nearly new F-types seem to be more a sellers market, making negotiations a little more difficult (demand greater than supply from what I understand).

Even the used older cars seem to have seen a slight uptick in values (generally).

What is the dealer asking for the car?

30% depreciation for a year and less than 7K mile - AND it's CPO? That sounds like a very fair price to me if this is a car you'd like to own.

 

Ask for the in-service date for the warranty, so you know how much is remaining.

 

Sounds like a steal. Have you got the Carfax? Starting at $60K with CPO you can afford to add an extra year to the remaining warranty ($1.5K)
If I had found a deal that good I would never have bought new!!!

 

Sorry to jump in on warranty but this is a post I shared on another platform on 19th January,

So got a call yesterday from Jag salesman on whether I be interested in trading up, so I said have you one to look at, not till march.Ok I said I will have a look when getting my car in for the 3 year service which was my standard warranty.
Now as I Mentioned this is the final year of my warranty, bought the car March 2018, got first service March 2019, then last year of course the covid struck so didn't get the car up in March 2020 had to wait till July due to restrictions and 3hr drive to dealers.
Today got a call would I like to get a free warranty check as it would be ending with my 3 year warranty. Now take into account we are back in lockdown again and here in Ireland 5km travel rule applies, so travel is ok for essential. I said to service guy sure I'll can get the car serviced when I'm up ,he then informed me that I would have to pay for that service as due to me going in July is wasn't a year between services and car needs 53,000km some **** like that, so just because I went up late due to the covid last year I won't get free service now if I went to them. Car has 31,000kms now.
I explained sure we're in same position as last year due to covid and might not get up anyway till restrictions ease, he wasn't to bothered so a few words exchanged and told him I would get it serviced privately, best of all the salesman rang me back later talking about buying the new car, explained the situation and said I will be taking my business elsewhere, hard enough trying to live through this pandemic without Jaguar being compete asses.

My understanding of the Jag F-Type USA warranty is as follows, based off of recently looking at 2 used vehicle and finally buying new:

1. New: as stated on the Jag website

2.. Used (not CPO): gets remainder of original warranty from date first owner purchased the vehicle. So a 2020 bought used in 2021 and originally purchased in 2019 gets between 3 and 4 years of remaining warranty depending on the actual date. It is my understanding from recent conversations at the Jag dealer that the only way to extend that used vehicle warranty is get the car "certified' when purchased from the dealer. It also my understanding that the cost of certification is about $2.5K before you pay for the additional 1 or 2 years of extended warranty. I think the first year warranty cots about $1.5K on top of the $2.5K but I do not know the cost of the 2 nd year extension.

3. A CPO vehicle comes with the remainder of the original warranty which may be extended by paying the $1.5K for the first extension year and some what more for the 2 nd year.

It is important when reading ads or talking to dealers to realize that "up to" is not the same as " included."

I looked at 2020 with 1500 miles . It was not certified so the cost to even get back to 5 year warranty mark would have been another $4K. I ended up getting an $8K incentive from Jag that actually made it cheaper to buy new.

 

I would learn more about its history. Is it a test drive / loaner car or was it owned by someone? What's the in service date and when does warranty expire. Any accident damage?

60k seems almost too good to be true. If it's a good car and you like it, I'd say jump on it...

 

I think if it's a test-drive/service loaner, it's still considered a "new" car, as it hasn't been titled yet.

 

No - they are often put 'in service' even if not sold yet and that means warranty starts to run. We've had people on here buy new cars that had sat and never driven for 1-2 years but had been 'punched' by the dealer and therefore lost 1-2years of warranty even though they are new. So v impt to ask and see in writing when the warranty expires.

Wow - that is crazy! I've never heard of this before, and I've bought a couple of cars that were demo/service loaners. They always came with the full warranty from the date and mileage where I bought the car. I would never accept this type of "new" car from a dealer.

 

Nothing on the carfax that suggests issues. But that's not a guarantee. And it's a CPO which means they have checked it out and should give some assurance
I can't speak to current pricing in the market but to my eye that's a good deal...

Tec - I know. Crazy. There have been at least 4-5 people on here who have bought without realizing some warranty was already used. Of course should be disclosed but prob not what most people are focused on. Anyway - best to focus on specific date that warranty expires vs number of years to avoid any confusion

Like others have said, before you sign on the dotted line find out from the dealer when the warranty was "punched". You would assume that it would be in either August or September 2019 when the car was purchased, but it could be much earlier than that, when the dealer first took possession of the car. Don't go by the CarFax.
