Default Creaking/tapping noise when motorized tailgate rises and descends

So anyone ever get a creaky/tapping noise in their tailgate pivot when it goes up and down? just noticed it today. 2019 F type R. feel like its coming from the joint/pivot of the tailgate.

Perhaps some white lithium grease? That is usually what is recommended for typical side door hinges if I’m not mistaken.

I’ve been meaning to add that to my pre winter storage to do checklist…

Thanks for reminding me ;-0

Just recently started hearing a bit of squeaking when the tailgate was closing. Solved it with silicone lube sprayed into a rag and then wiping the hinges and hydraulic tubes. Used the rag instead of direct spray because I didn't want to get any overspray on the interior.

Hi Chukster,
just a cautionary note on the silicone on the boot hydraulic rams. I wanted to lubricate my bonnet rams but almost every search warned against using any silicone or oil lubricant for the job.
I found if I left the bonnet up for more than 30 minutes(to let the heat out) the rams took far too much force to close.
Apparently there is a possibility of contamination of the oil in the rams?

I’d say mine is more a tapping noise than a squeak. Weird. I will try to upload a video

I did use the PB graphite on the tubes. I also have a can of the PB Silicone that I use for garage door lube that I use more often - I guess I had a brain fart while commenting and posted about the wrong stuff.

F-Types have tailgates? You must mean spoiler, no?

The coupe definitely has a tailgate, more commonly called a hatch!

I should've known: a Britishism!

In the US a tailgate is the drop-down back end of a pickup truck's cargo bed (hence, "tailgate party," when it's used as a pregame picnic table in a stadium parking lot).

Much the same here in Oz, our utes, panel vans and station wagons/sedans had/have tailgates.
Utes had just a tailgate that dropped down while panel vans and station wagons/sedans had a drop down lower half and a hinged upper half which was usually glass but we often called both parts "the tailgate". Hence in Oz the F-Type hatch can be a tailgate, dunno about those in Blighty.
We no longer have any of those but we do have "trucks" although we still call them utes, with tailgates.
In fact those trucks/utes are far and away the biggest segment of our new car market.
