Default Custom ordering negotiations

Hi,

Just curious if custom ordering/building is the ability to get a discount from MSRP Limited? Any experience?

Thank you.

When one custom orders any vehicle, there is no obligation to purchase it. If you don't like the deal, you can always walk away. Theoretically, you have the same leverage to negotiate as you would buying off the lot. However, it's often easier to negotiate a deeper discount off something in stock because a dealer is frequently incentivized to move something that's been sitting in inventory for awhile.

I did not negotiate a discount on mine. I got the JCNA discount, but that was it. I decided exactly what I wanted, deemed the MSRP acceptable, and placed the order. It would have taken extraordinary circumstances to make me walk away from the car at that point. To be fair, I hate negotiating. Some people enjoy it, but it sucks the life out of me. The only negotiation I did was on the financing. I told them that they needed to lower the interest rate or I'd finance through my own sources. They did.

$6K off an ordered car...and another dealer offered more to try and steal the deal but I was satisfied....that was with the JCNA money.

Was offered $5k off plus the JCNA added on afterwards. (never mentioned it until I got a confirmed price.)

Out of about 12 dealerships that I contacted, only 3 were willing to drop below MSRP. This was when the R was brand new though.

Depends entirely on the dealer. I was able to get $7k off with the JCNA discount when ordering.

Thank you for the replies.

Thinking F Type Coupe in the next year or two.

Would be first big car purchase so the concept of that amount of money is still hard to swallow

Just had to unload my 03 Escape with 123k on it. Took my wife's Matrix 09 (given to us by her mom) with 77k on it. Got her a Volvo XC60 2016, but that had 0% financing so easier to swallow.

Lizzardo, unless F-Types are at a premium in CA, you paid more than you had to. My last 4 cars—a BMW, 2 Mercedes and most recently the Jag—were all special orders and I used the same no-haggle approach every time. I told the dealer that I would meet him exactly halfway between MSRP and dealer invoice. (Several online services can give you the exact dealer invoice figure, including your ordered options and dealer holdbacks.) So offered price = invoice + [MSRP – invoice]. That offer was accepted every time. For the Jag the JCNA discount was an additional bonus.

I was able to get 7% off MSRP ($7,700), plus JCNA $2,500. My local dealer then offered $8,500 off (originally was $5k off) but I stayed with first one since I did not want to punish them for a very good first offer while rewarding the lesser local dealer. My philosophy is send out a request for exactly what I want with explicit instructions that they have one chance to provide best price and that is who I will buy from. Works well and eliminates any haggling.

I ordered mine in 2013 before F-types were shipping, and before anyone outside Jaguar had driven one. Didn't even try to negotiate.

I'm sure that's true. As noted, I made no attempt to push the price down.

I got $6500 off MSRP on an ordered car (2016 S with MT) PLUS the JCNA rebate. No negotiations were necessary. Went through True Car.

I got about 4% off when I ordered 10/30/14. Left the factory 1/14/15 and delivered 2/20/15. Day of delivery dealer offered to let me out of the deal no problem if I wanted to order a manual 2016. He had buyers for my V6S. I said "no way" and took my car with delivery miles on it. Longest 133 days of my life.
Dealer has called me and told me he would be delighted to have me trade it in 3 years, they expect strong used demand. Maybe I'll get the MT then....
