Default Disabling Auto Fold Mirrors & Auto Door Locking

I have been studying the 2021 F Type online manual while awaiting delivery of my new R model. I would like to disable the auto folding/unfolding mirror feature and just use the buttons to fold them when I feel the situation requires it. I have a phobia about features like that failing right about the time the warranty expires necessitating a very expensive repair bill.
Anyway, the manual states "The automatic folding and unfolding feature can be enabled or disabled by a retailer/authorized repairer" Seriously ? That is not something that the owner can set up in the touch screen menu for preferences ?

Also, I detest auto door locking. Hearing that big KA-CHUNK sound when the doors lock or unlock bothers me. My usual habit when driving (alone anyway) is for only the drivers side door to be unlocked and when I exit the vehicle I just lock that door. I have looked at the manual and it hints at the door handles retracting at speeds about 5 MPH but doesn't indicate that feature can be programmed on/off by the owner or a dealer.

I remember when I bought my Infiniti G35 someone posted a "secret menu" that only a dealer could access to set up some preferences and I had my dealer do them at no charge. Does anyone have experience in these features ? I guess I'll have them done when I take delivery but it sure would be nice to have those kind of automatic features owner adjustable.

I think that driveaway locking is user-settable under the Vehicle Settings menu. The autofold isn't a user-settable option, alas.

Having just picked up my 2021 R this week, I can confirm this is the case. You can set the auto locking function, but the folding mirrors are not something found in the menus (at least that I could find)

My previous XKRs had that option which I found useful as I could disable them in winter so they didn't freeze folded in. Another option in the XKR I found useful was the auto-dip passenger mirror in reverse. The F-Type has the same feature, but isn't adjustable and dips way too low for my taste - with the XKR you could adjust the mirror in reverse and it would remember the setting. Why do manufacturers have to remove useful features over time?

I'm fairly confident that I adjusted mine.

Yep, my Owner's Handbook says:

MIRROR DIP WHEN REVERSING
The mirrors can be configured so that when
Reverse (R) gear is selected, the passenger door
mirror is automatically adjusted to provide an
improved viewing angle for reversing.
The exact dipped position can be adjusted using
the joystick control, when the mirror is dipped.
The next time Reverse (R) is selected, the newly
adjusted position will be selected.
When the gear selector is moved out of Reverse
(R), or if the vehicle's speed exceeds 12 km/h
(7.5 mph) while reversing, the mirror will return
to its previous position.
Mirror dip can be selected or deselected from
the Instrument panel menu. Select Features
from the Vehicle Set-up menu, then select the
desired option from the list.

MY 2015 so MY 2021 could be very different.

I will ask the technician about disabling the auto-fold feature when I take delivery. I have them disabled on my Mazda CX 5 and the only time I fold them in is when parking in an area where there may be a lot of people walking between parked cars and run the risk of someone slamming into one of the mirrors.

Cars are getting so complex now that I'm planning on spending a few afternoons sitting in my garage with a laptop on the passenger seat opened up to the online manual, and going step by step through all the features. The days of picking up a new car and the only thing you had to do was to slide the (non power) seat back and forth for the right distance, adjust the mirrors and preset a few AM/FM radio stations is long gone !

Unfortunately, I agree about the complexity.

Three years into our ownership, I've unfortunately forgotten HOW I set many of the operational preferences.

++++++++++++

One comment about the reverse-dip feature:

The mirrors will straighten if you drive fast enough in reverse!

Always thought this feature was poorly implemented as it only dipped a tiny bit, now that's why. Can't wait to try it tomorrow!

Yep, I have mine set to dip way down so that it shows the rear tyre and the gutter at the same time.
Great for manoeuvring into tight spots and "ranking" without gutter rashing the very expensive rear wheel!

If you can't adjust auto dip mirrors any more, just configure seat memory 2 to have all the same settings as 1 except a more dipped mirror. Then if you're reverse parking and need to see the curb, just hit 2 to dip it. And 1 to put it back again. Maybe a hasssle - but could save your wheel!

Already done, though I used memory 3. But as you've observed, it's a right faff so I never bother with it.

Geez, I guess this is still a thing where you can’t, as a user, make the side mirrors NOT auto fold? The dealer has to still work magic?

I looked everywhere in the settings and couldn’t see an option for this. Other cars I’ve had you could disable this. Seems like an awful weird thing to remove the option for over time. Strange.

Pushing both mirror buttons and holding them does something - retracts them? Don’t recall if it affects auto operation.

It retracts or extends them on demand but it doesn't disable the auto fold.

AFAIK, the autofold option is dealer mod only.

I know it's not the "approved" option, but one of the aftermarket coding cables that connects through the OBD2 would allow you to configure the mirror settings, along with a bunch of other options, if the dealer trip is overkill. These cars are still SDD based so they have more selectable options than other JLR products, but that could be good or bad.
